While I'm loathe to present even a link to "territory" such as this, during a short diversion from these pages I happened upon this "perspective" from William Rivers Pitt of Truthout.org. Mr. Pitt (who I understand) is quite the notable in corners of the web you might not frequent, quotes the following (cough cough) "observation" "informing" his readers of a "warning" offered by one of his ideological ilk to "GOP delegates" who, according to Mr. Pitt, "are scared."

"Republican conventioneers are flowing into New York today, and they are scared. The level of hysteria being pumped into the equation would be funny if it were not so combustible. Bernadette Malone, former editorial page director for the New Hampshire Union Leader, warned GOP delegates that, "Next week, people who hate Republicans plan to release swarms of mice in New York City to terrorize delegates to the National Republican Convention. Republican-haters plan on dressing up as RNC volunteers, and giving false directions to little blue hair ladies from Kansas, sending them into the sectors of New York City that are unfit for human habitation. They plan on throwing pies and Lord knows what else at Republican visitors to the city. Prostitutes with AIDS plan to seduce Republican visitors, and discourage the use of condoms."
Yes, she was serious."

(shudder )
Two impressions struck me from this "perspective", both applicable (and apropos of Mr.Pitt's stereotypical liberal style and tone-deafness) to Kerry.
Covert elitism - Kerry style
Perhaps Mr. Pitt, overwhelmed by his concern for the well-being of the "GOP delegates" (or, perhaps, by his own ABB obsession?), simply overlooked this little gem buried in Ms. Malone's offering:
"...sending them into the sectors of New York City that are unfit for human habitation."
One wonders if Mr. Pitt might query Ms. Malone as to just who or what actually DWELLS in those sectors of NYC "unfit for human habitation?" Certainly not (gulp) humans? Would she (or Mr. Pitt?) care to be more specific as to the geographical sectors in question?
It's not me! It's her! - Kerry style
Of course this is NOT Mr. Pitt offering these observations. It was HER! This type of verbal chicanery bears a striking resemblance to an anticipated Kerry "Dewey Canyon" defense already undergoing field-testing by no less than Mark Shields and Alan Colmes. "But...but...but Kerry was only the messenger, NOT the accuser!"
And they wonder why Kerry's honor, integrity, and fitness for command are being questioned? |
