More on Saddam's Connection With September 11

The hottest topic in the news right now is the unfolding evidence of involvement on the part of Saddam Hussein's regime in the Sept. 11 attacks. Last Thursday, we noted that an Iraqi named Ahmed Hikmat Shakir, who has long been of interest to our intelligence agencies because he attended the January 2000 al Qaeda meeting in Kuala Lumpur at which the Sept. 11 attacks were planned, has now been discovered to have been a Lt. Colonel in the Saddam Fedayeen.

Today Andrew McCarthy. a former chief assistant U.S. attorney who headed the terrorism prosecution of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven others, has an article in National Review Online in which he reviews the current state of the evidence of an Iraq/September 11 link, focusing on Shakir and, especially, on Mohammed Atta's apparent connections with the Iraqi regime. http://www.nationalreview.com/mccarthy/mccarthy200406010821.asp

The most important development on this front is, of course, the publication of Stephen Hayes' The Connection : How al Qaeda's Collaboration with Saddam Hussein Has Endangered America, which came out today. The Trunk has apparently managed the astonishing feat of snagging Hayes as a guest on our radio show Saturday afternoon! We'll post a report on what he has to say for those who aren't fortunate enough to hear the interview on 1280 AM, the Patriot. http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/004/152lndzv.asp

It is a sign of the times that leftists have wasted no time in attacking Hayes' book, even though they can't possibly have read it. As often happens on Amazon, left-wingers have tried to drag down the book's average on-line rating by giving it the lowest possible score--sight unseen. One of these "reviewers" said that Hayes' book "omits damning evidence" that President Bush, not Saddam Hussein, "had ties with the Bin Laden family who invested millions in his family's oil." Such are the sad times we live in.

Undoubtedly true that the Bush family has stronger ties to the Bin Ladin family than Saddam.

But it's not lefties that you should be concerned about (and yes, your mention of it above shows your concern), it's moderates in the US as well as the rest of the world.

I doubt that The Weekly Standard or The National Review will ever offer anything of substance, at least not enough to convince anyone besides fellow conservatives in the US hungry for a flimsy sliver of evidence to defend this pointless and damaging war.

I will call him a liar, a cheat, a son of a ***** and piece of crap to his face, not to mention a drunk, a coke head and a disgrace to this country. He is not fit to be commander and chief. He is your President, not mine.

Sparky,

Please expound on the significance of the above. We really want to be educated by your brilliance. Share your wisdom. Thanks.

Personally, I think you are making this common mistake:

Taking Things to Their Illogical Conclusion
Example: If you let your barber cut your hair, the next thing you know he'll be lopping off your limbs!

However, I'm open to your explanation of the Bush family ties to relatives of Osama.

Best,

FDL
