The undecided and the moderate democrats will respond negatively to these attacks and either not vote or vote against Kerry.

Who are the top 2-3 Swift Vets that are beyond reproach?
By that I mean, which ones are universally (by the media, the Dems, everyone) regarded as honest, brave, war heroes, etc.?
Personally, I feel they *all* are. But some have been unfairly smeared because of past connections to the Republican party and some have been falsely accused of contradictions and as being hypocrites and liars.

I think Joe Lockhart needs to be personally and specifically challenged on his outrageous statements and accusations. Of course it would be better to challenge Kerry on them, but I get the feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Lockhart on the news shows from now on.

Posting his comments on a new "JoeLockhart.com" website with factual rebuttal might make him a little less likely to smear the Swiftees in future.

If some enterprising website guy has the time and inclination, you could go to GoDaddy.com, register the name, get hosting for a few dollars/month and put up a point-by-point rebuttal...

Would be a good resource for anyone looking for information on Mr. Lockhart.

Slanderous and unsubstantiated words as this are to be expected. They are very desparate and will spew all the slander and lies they can now. Even Kerry's "speech" last night was filled with inaccuracies about the RNC convention, but it's their hope that enough people fall for it and believe it.

I wonder though if SVFT has to 'take it' - John is an attorney and could file a suit against Lockhart. If the case went forward and he had to prove his remarks in a courtroom, that would be a great public forum for the Swiftees to state the facts and have them judged. I'm not a lawyer and so have no idea what would be involved in a case like that, or if Lockhart's words rise to legal defamation. But, it sure sounds like it to my laymans ear.

Suiing would also mean millions and millions more dollars worth of exposure...

I think like most people here, I wish I could *do something* to counter all of these "unsubstantiated words" as you call them. (I would call them slanderous lies.)..

Actually, I think we finally have the perfect goat to sue: Joe Lockhart. He just made the most slanderous remark so far, it's public record and he will be forced to prove that these men are pathological liars. And, in the meantime the Swiftvets kick up the biggest stink in political history. The upside is that if a suit is filed, James Carvile will be loathe to step into the fray.
