'PANICKY' DEMS IN THE DUMPS

September 4, 2004 -- Democrats were reaching for the panic button yesterday amid growing fears that John Kerry is blowing the 2004 race — while President Bush basked in the glow of a successful New York convention.

"The smell of panic is in the air," said a veteran Democratic strategist as Time magazine reported that Bush has suddenly built an 11-point lead over Kerry.

Democratic angst was fueled by Kerry's decision to hold a shrill, post-midnight rally right after Bush's well-received convention speech and blast the wartime commander in chief as "unfit to lead."

"It looked reactionary and panicky and angry — not confident. That's not presidential," said a senior Democrat.

Others said Kerry is starting to look as tone-deaf as 1988 Massachusetts loser Michael Dukakis.

The stunning turnaround began after anti-Kerry Vietnam vets went on the air with TV attack ads noting how Kerry once painted fellow vets as war criminals. Deborah Orin

Will JFK go down with his ship?

Hopefully this momentum can be maintained. There is still a lot of time left before the election. Hopefully the RNC knows what we all know....when the enemy waivers it's time to move in and finish the job. No quarter.

Great to see that in a NY paper. When panic sets in mistakes are made, lets hope Kerry and thd Dems stay in the panic mode. Still 58 days to election and if Kerry feels backed up against the wall he and campaign will do anything to win. No time to let up.
Thanks SBVT

I think Kerry’s words have come back to haunt him and he WILL BE THE LAST MAN TO DIE FOR VIETNAM. I don't mean as in "Death", but as in DISGRACE. What goes around comes around and truth wins in the END.

Maybe Kerry will be the last man disgraced by Viet Nam and it would serve him right. That way, the rest of the vets who served there can grow old with the knowledge they were honorable and fought the good fight. Like I tell my kids - what goes around - comes around.

I predict Kerry will drop out of the race ( joining Clinton at Bethesda for a heart implant, no bypass, as in bypassing the further humiliation).

The bad news is Hillary will step to the plate for the VP slot under Edwards.

Now a revitalized ******** ticket will put on a charge to election day.

Oh, did I mention, Slick Willy will mysteriously not make it thru surgery and the nation will mourn his death for the next several months promting the largest sympathy vote turnout in history.

People, this is terrible news![/delusional panic]

> I predict Kerry will drop out of the race ...

He'd have to be forced out at gunpoint. Despite
the sinking polls, this guy is not about to let
anything interfere with what he has always seen
as his Destiny to be the second JFK.

Did you think it was a coincidence that in 1968,
the closest thing the US Navy had to PT Boats
was PCFs, and that JfK2 ended up on one?

> The bad news is Hillary will step to the plate ...

A key deadline passed this week. It won't be as
easy as replacing Eagleton. The DNC would have
to pull off 50 different Toricelli/Lautenberg maneuvers.

> ... for the VP slot under Edwards.

If Kerry departs, we cannot imagine the ferocity
of the infighting for the top spot. Promoting
Edwards is very far from a given.

Wait until they see the Newsweek poll:

54 to 43.

Turn out your lights, Kerry, the party is over soon.

It is a well known fact that when you get rattled you make mistakes. John Kerry was rattled during the RNC and the midnight rant was rash and very costly mistake.

His campaign is falling apart....HE is falling apart.

And by the way, where is Tah-Rey-Sah the past few weeks. Has the campaign done the smart thing and sent her back home? Surprised
