Welcome to Lorelei and fr11 and the other new posters.

Your post was wonderful, thoughtful and encouraging Lorelei. I agree with it all. One of the main things I have also looked at is the 'attack' dogs.... especially the personal attacks... the screeches etc that are not necessary. I have often said recently that I wouldn't want my grandkids watching these people and thinking that this is the way to act or get a point across.... I am a very pro bush person... but have my disagreements with certain policies... after listening to Zell the other night, I'd vote for him if he were running... there are a few good people in the demo party... I've watched Bushs' face closely.... I've seen the tearing up when he talks about our injured military and those that have died in servide to our country... that tells me a lot.... I knew he was visiting the families even when the left was yelling 'he doesn't go to the funerals' (well there's an easy answer to that - the funerals are private family time - imagine having the President there.... Secret Svc men, commotion, etc it'd end up a mess).... but how tacky and nasty of the left to even bring it up! I don't like nasty. and Bush doesn't react with 'nasty'; Kerry does. Any thing to win the prize of the presidency... just like clinton and gore.... but Kerry is the worst of them.... and it's beyond my imagination as to how he ever got to be a Senator let alone nominated for CIC.... I would never use the 'P' title with his name (I never did for Clinton and I still don't). Our military people are most important and how they are treated is most important. And I like how Bush treats them. I don't even like to see Kerry in the same room with our military. I cringe. I worry about what our young people are learning.... you can lie, cheat and hurt people to get what you want and it's ok.... NO, it is not OK! And I am so glad the Swifties came out with all this and exposed Kerry. So many in this country like our new young person (fr11) need to know this (about Vietnam and Kerry) and hear it and remember it. It's been shelved for way to long. Lots of people say 'that was 35 years ago'.... yup, a long time ago.... but it was jsut swept under the rug and not dealt with. As a country we have to DEAL with it and let our Vets know we honor them and the service they have given to us. As I watch things on Iraq, I feel so blest to see that we have another generation of young honorable people with such a sense of love and commitment to our country.
God bless the Swifties and God bless our country.

Retried Army Wife - While I cannot disagree with your excellent analysis of Kerry the man, etc. the ability that we have in this country to make informed decisions about who to vote for have become more difficult every year.

I have always known that the media was bias, but I never realized the extent to which they were nor the length they would go in order to put their side forward. I am sure both sides play what they call the "spin" game, but what that really means is LIE machine. I am so sick of it I could scream.

Over the past few weeks watching the Swiftie controversy I have seen LIE present itself in several forms, but regardless which form it is presented, it is still a LIE.

The boldness these guys LIE with is extraordinairy. Neil Gabler, on FOX News Watch quoted from Rudy Giuliani speech at the RNC. He was outraged because Giuliani had said that as he watched human bodies jumping from windows, he turned to Bernie, and said, "Thank God George Bush is our President."

All those words are true, but the problem is he left out a LOT of words between seeing the bodies and turning to speak to Bernie. The whole quote is below.

On September 11, this city and our nation faced the worst attack in our history.
On that day, we had to confront reality. For me, standing below the north tower and looking up and seeing the flames of hell and then realizing that I was actually seeing a man – a human being – jumping from the 101st or 102nd floor drove home to me that we were facing something beyond anything we had ever faced before.
We had to concentrate all of our energy, faith and hope to get through those first hours and days. And I will always remember that moment as we escaped the building we were trapped in at 75 Barclay Street and realized that things outside might be even worse than they were inside the building.
We did the best we could to communicate a message of calm and hope, as we stood on the pavement seeing a massive cloud rushing through the cavernous streets of lower Manhattan.
Our people were so brave in their response.
At the time, we believed we would be attacked many more times that day and in the days that followed. Spontaneously, I grabbed the arm of then Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik and said to Bernie, "Thank God George Bush is our President."

This twisting of what Giuliani said is an outrage. With the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth they, as far as I have seen, have used different tactics, but they are every bit as bold, blatent and in your face.

The problem is, the public has to be informed to be able to listen to the news so they can determine what is true or not. That in and of itself is insane.

I am so angry I could spit. And yes, I will spend my free time this week end compiling evidence etc. to hit the news outlets with Tuesday am. If you have examples, especially those involving the Swifties, let me know. Be sure to provide documentation.

By definition, "spin" does not equal "lie". It's supposed to be a positive slant on the truth. XXX happens and it's shown in its best possible light, but not negating that xxx happened.

What is clearly happening with the media treatment of SwiftVets and other issues is LYING. It is not spin!

Confusing things further, there is FOG, yet another term that's lost it's way in the media bias bog.

It is possible (but increasingly difficult) to cut through the FOG, unspin the spin, and ultimately reach what is true or a lie. The truth stands on its own and doesn't need to be spun, fogged or twisted. I start by stripping away the adjectives, adverbs and descriptive phrases to get to the simple subject and verb... that often helps. If the meaning changes significantly (and quite often it does) then I look to motive. Is it an intentional lie or a more innocent mistatement based on incorrect information? Why do they want me to see xxx instance as something completely different from what it is? Why is this instance being "reported" or stressed.

However we analyze or "read" people, the important thing is to do it! Critical thinking is said to be a lost art, but I think otherwise. I believe people still have the ability to do it, it just takes an important enough issue to make it worth the effort. Ignoring network news and "mainstream" media certainly helps.

Great post!

Kerry is a legend in his own mind...

As being smart, he could not get into Harvard Law School. His law degree is from Boston College. Even with his fancy prep school education and Yale degree he couldn't make Harvard. Bush has a Harvard MBA.

As they say in the south, "he is educated far above intelligence".

His accomplishments can be attributed to selling out his comrades and marrying rich women.

Beautiful post, Lorelei!

I describe Kerry in much simpler and less eloquent terms.
Bully, Liar, coward, traitor and spoiled brat.

Take his lollypop away and what do you get? Hissy fits

If he was so brave, why doesn't he face the Swift Vets himself?
Instead of scrapping up dirt on them?

I agree with the other poster, you should consider sending
your post to your local newspaper.

I will definately think on that, the closest one that is a large paper is in Raleigh. Before I do, I'll call and see what the "stipulations" are for that.

I appreciate you all taking the time to respond,
Stay safe.
