I am kind of new to the whole forum thing, and was wondering what the single word post "bump" I see in some threads represents. Thanks for info

In a forum as busy as this one is, posts often get pushed to the 2nd or 3rd page as newer thread topics are added... thereby reducing the chance that someone will actually see the post. So often times if you want to move the thread back up to the front page, but you have no additional comment to make, people will "bump" the post so it shows back up on the front page. Cool

Hope this helps Wink

Gratuitous bumps aren't generally welcomed on these forums.

If you have something to add to the thread, it's always welcome, but in general.... just "bumping" the topic is acceptable for about 24 hours. Smile

Not that it's ALWAYS out of line - I've bumped a topic, myself, when people are starting new topics that discuss duplicates that are hidden back on page 2 or 3 and it's getting to be a problem.

Sometimes, you'll see "BTT," instead - "bump to the top."

probably. I don't know where you are, but it's 1:32 am here! (i.e. I am slightly punchy) I am up way past my bedtime. I am catching up cause my computer decided to log on for 2 minutes at a time for the past few days! Evil or Very Mad

I used to have that under Windoze 98 - BSOD'd me to death. Couldn't work more than a couple of hours sometimes, without a reboot! Arggghhhh!

So far :::knocking on head::: Win XP has been very stable and reliable.

I HAVE xp! Evil or Very Mad I got a trojan horse somehow... I think I can thank my daughter for that Rolling Eyes I even had a firewall going. I removed it, all of it's components BY HAND... it took aover an hour, editing the registry, etc etc..installed a new, better firewall.. 2 more spyware programs, a 4th spyware blocker... made sure to close any open ports... since then I have had nothing but problems. on the plus side, my new firewall blocked over 200 attempts to hack in to my pc... in a week!

it's fine now (crosses fingers) and isn't it about time to lock this thread and let it sink? Embarassed
