**Leads back to Kerry? The Real Origin of the Documents
Scroll for American Spectator Article Excerpt...

The origin of the FORGED Documents story goes back to one of my hangouts FREEREPUBLIC.com, where I've been a member since 1998. (same screen name too)

ABC has done an analysis and it was during the show that a Freeper began a thread on Wednesday night that took hold and began this frenzy of forged documents.

ABC Story and analysis here:
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html
(Actually it was TankerKC, not Buckhead that first questioned the memos)

At Freerepublic, it went down like this:
1)Howlin began a thread.
2) TankerKC pointed out the documents.
3) Buckhead broke the proportional story..

1st Freeper Thread which shows 1st questions at 09/08/2004 5:19:00 PM PDT by TankerKC **READ POST #107 **

And INDC Journal Here:

(Interesting where I rip apart a lib dem that tried to deflect with OCR Scanning, and kerning BS....

And of course our resident swift members chimed in as well on Thursday. (Great job)

Dig into the kerning folks, if you have not done so... Kerning can only be done on a Computer, and the CYA memo has kerning in it... (look at the my)

Large Freeper Thread, over 600 Posts began at 09/08/2004 9:16:04 PM by Howlin

Those are pretty much where I was hanging out yesterday....

************

What this shows is the power of the internet, the intelligence of conservatives who will stand behind their President, and the ability of people to come together to defeat John Kerry....

The rest of the story is still developing, as Drudge report then posted it, and Fox News Jim Angle and Brit Hume were first MSM to discuss it in detail on Brit Hume's Show, Special report:

Swift vets also gets mention in another story on Fox's website:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,131997,00.html

************
************

This story will lead back to the Kerry campaign and who knew about these documents and why they were not vetted properly, IMHO, and others....

American Spectator has run this story which is very telling about links to the Kerry Campaign and the DNC, where they state the DNC and Kerry Campaign was aware of the documents:

Anatomy of a Forgery
By The Prowler
Published 9/10/2004 12:09:06 AM

More than six weeks ago, an opposition research staffer for the Democratic National Committee received documents purportedly written by President George W. Bush's Texas Air National Guard squadron commander, the late Col. Jerry Killian.

The oppo researcher claimed the source was "a retired military officer." According to a DNC staffer, the documents were seen by both senior staff members at the DNC, as well as the Kerry campaign.

"More than a couple people heard about the papers," says the DNC staffer. "I've heard that they ended up with the Kerry campaign, for them to decide to how to proceed, and presumably they were handed over to 60 Minutes, which used them the other night. But I know this much. When there was discussion here, there were doubts raised about their authenticity."

The concerns arose from the sourcing. "It wasn't clear that our source for the documents would have had access to them. Our person couldn't confirm from what file, from what original source they came from."

The documents that CBS News used were not documents from any of Bush's personnel files from his time in the National Guard. Rather, CBS News stated that they were documents uncovered in the personnel files of Killian. That would explain why the White House or the Pentagon had never before released or even seen them.

Folks, keep up the pressure, and keep asking the questions... It's been over a month now since kerry answered any reporter questions, as Kerry keeps hiding and avoiding the truth of his war record, his senate record and his dispicable record after returning from his 4 month tour on kerry's Isle..

Watch as over the next few days, the Kerry Campaign will continue to sink as the origin of these documents gets traced back to their campaign...

As CBS stews in their pathetic attempt at biased partosan news, the folks on the net and in the blogs will continue to affect the ouitcome of the election...

The lib dems may attempt to deflect from the truth, but the truth cannot be held back...

Great Job folks, keep it up, and don't forget to make more donations...

Regards,
Joe

Sonar5,

I disagree with the kerning thing. Kerning is NOT the default in Word. You have to turn it on and the place to turn it on is not obvious. The person that typed these documents doesn't have the technical expertise to find it.

(Can you tell me the exact steps for turning it on????)

I typed all four documents with kerning OFF and they are identical. Kerning isn't the issue here.

(and, yes, I do know what it is and have worked with it and know about kerning pairs and such)

Look at the CYA Memo in Adobe....

Blow it up to 400% or larger, like 1600%.

Look at the my in "doing my job"

There are other examples in that same document as well, IMHO.

And depending on what Computer he used, some think it was MS Woprd on a mac, maybe it was turned on, and the author didn't realize it.

I don't remember all the default changes I've made in Open Office...

The forgery author, IMHO, did take steps to authenticate some language and facts from the time, so he/she was smart enough to fool CBS, the DNC, and the Kerry Campaign...

I still think Kerning is part of it..

With all due respect, allegations of Kerry involvement are, at this point AFAIK, pure speculation.

Thanks, however, for the fine summation of the story thus far.

Moving this to Geedunk

Thanks

Sonar5,

Tell me how to turn kerning on....

As I said, I typed my four duplicate copies WITHOUT KERNING TURNED ON (the Word defaults) and my documents look exactly like the examples.

Now Word may be doing something behind the scenes, but it does have a kerning setting and the kerning setting does not have to be turned on to duplicate the memos.

Let's say that it's not Word's kerning setting in use...

I DON'T HAVE WORD...

I wouldn't pay 2 cents to billy boy's company unless I need to. (WinXP Pro)

I use Open Office, the 100% FREEWARE Office program, and I further save documents in that program in MS formats for those that did give money to billy.

Open Office also creates nice FREE PDF's...

For pair kerning in OOo, I change it by changing a style and save it as a template and then open that template every time.

For Kerning, also Look at Line #4 and the word NOT....

Please explain the O and the T please, and the m and the y....

This doesn't have to do with whether the author was smart enough or dumb enough to turn kerning on, it is whether the documents have it....

Can we stick to that ascertation?

Zoom the CYA Memo to File, Aug. 18, 1973, and view it for yourself.

I can post screenshots if you like, but it is pretty obvious to many outside of this site, and you may disagree, but you can't, IMHO, say it is not so just based on whether the author had it turned on or not....

Until we figure out where the origins of these turn up (Check Barnes' Trash cans), We won't know if he/she knew how to turn it on.

But anyone can zoom on these and see the kerning in the two examples I pointed out:

Please keep the eye on the ball, as it is the combination of inconsistencies such as kerning which prove them to be forgery's, IMHO, and many others.

Memo here:

Joe

Sonar5,

I hate Word, but unfortunately I have to teach it. I don't have to use it and I haven't spent my own money on it.

However, I'd be careful about the kerning thing because the other side can use the argument that I'm using. Word is no doubt doing something behind the scenes, but there is a separate kerning setting that must be turned on.

BTW, Word creates free PDFs.

Maybe but how much do people have to pay for word... $$$, an dthen they get PDF's, but it ain't FREE. Smile

OOo is 100% FREE, has PDF saving as FREE, and stuff can be saved in both MS formats, as well as OOo formats...

I also downloaded tons fo free templates from Sun who sells a supported version with technical support.

I use the 100% Free version...

And they have a great educational package available to schools, etc...

Including templates, teaching tools, program's... etc... 100% FREE...

Proportional spacing means that the letter "i" requires less horizontal space than the letter "W" or "M".

Kerning is when proportional spaced characters overlap horizontally into their neighboring characters' space a bit.

Here's the "my job" from http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/BushGuardaugust18.pdf with green hash marks to point out the overlap. I hope this makes things clearer for the font impaired! Laughing

Put simply... Typewriter my ass.

You GottaBeKidding,

To turn on the kerning feature in Word 2000 which is what I have, go to format/font/character spacing/ and you will see the check box to turn on kerning.

I have used this extensively when writing a program book for a conference where I had to get lecture descriptions to fit a fixed box size.
