Sorry, this is another side track...but I found this quote from Thorson interesting. Could be nothing!
However, he joked that he wouldn't mind installing a phone in his garage with a direct link to the Oval Office.

"If Kerry wins, I might get an extra phone so If I ever need anything, I can call upon a favor from the president."
Another non sequitur: I believe the sailors who support this guy are unsavorily involved up to their medals. It looks like our subject not only received a medal for his silence but may plan to cash in November 3.

And what happens to them when our hero loses? How do they get paid off then? AND, what good will it do them if they all get outed? Finally, how can anyone be so stupid as to back this puke to begin with?

All rhetorical questions, that may be answered soon. Very Happy

I dunno. It's my own personal speculation based on little hard information. I believe it's possible that verbal promises could have been offered and they could have been contingent on winning or they could be win or lose. Certainly, the truth about what happened will be greatly reduced in value if our hero loses.

Either way, we should be greatly interested in this little bit of human nature. Depending on the type of promise, those who support our hero may be more willing to tell the truth if in about a month, if it looks like our hero will lose.

OK, Chief, regarding thumper, someone in another part of this site suggested that Kerry must've been asleep during M-79 training. I replied in my usual suspicious way that it's possible that he learned it better than the Navy wanted him to. He may have learned very early that thumper "shrapnel" (or whatever it is) was not life-threatening and not even too painful, AND it always results in a PH. What better way to game the system, become a hero and "bug out."

"shrapnel" (or whatever it is)

If I remember correctly, it was serrated wire, a roll of coiled wire that was cut almost through, around the bursting charge. Why an illumination round would produce shrapnel, instead of just ejecting the flare/parachute is beyond me, though. I never fired those, so somebody with experience should post here and fill us in on how likely that would be. I'm thinking if the ejection charge created shrapnel, you would end up with a shredded parachute, so right now I'm dubious on that part.
