Just what we need now, an North Korea armed with nuclear bombs and with missles that can reach the Western coast.

I wonder how Kerry will fit N. Korea into his plan for fighting a "kinder, gentler" War on Terror?

Massive explosions with a mushroom cloud dont always mean its nuclear. it just means the explosion was massive. though the reports of the crater being visible from satellite is very alarming to me.

Reports are too sketchy to make any conclusions, if its a nuke, it means NK is trying to flex it with the big boys. I still dont think they would attack us. Japan maybe one day but us not yet.

Dan Rather will probably report that a giant "Texas sized" mushroom exploded in North Korea, and it is further proof that GW Bush failed to complete his National Guard duty during the Korean War because while he was supposedly in Alabama, he was actually hiding a stash of old mushrooms in North Korea to get even with the Commies because that war ended in a cease fire just like he knew the first Gulf War would end years later when his father would be President and the mushrooms just now reached critical mass. Kerry's people are going to spin this that the war in Iraq was a distraction, that the US should have had unilateral discussions with N. Korea and we should have "engaged in a dialogue". They are going to say we have George Bush's failed Iraq adventure to blame for this. The MSM is going to pound this for the last few months to try to get Kerry into office. CBS will be extra tough, to avoid reporting on the memos anymore.

If N. Korea starts making demands this could get ugly very fast. Because Bush is going to stand firm, as he should.

And yes, I believe this very well might be a nuke. The cloud was 2 miles wide.

Im guessing they tested this in a remote area, if in fact it is a nuke.

Kim hates Bush and i think a long with showing he does have a nuke capability he is thumbing his nose at the president. BTW we cant touch Korea without China's approval. This will get messy.

This was observed 3 days ago, correct? If it was an above-ground test (which it was, if there was a mushroom cloud) then the radiation will be detected in the U.S. The last Chinese nuclear test (I can't remember the year, around 1970) shut down the Idaho Nuclear Engineering Lab from the small amount of fallout that reached the U.S. My dad worked there at the time, and the fallout was enough to set off all of their monitoring equipment and cause the site to close to all foot traffic until the radiation control team could swab the entire inside of the buildings with blotter paper. I'm positive the U.S. knows by now whether this was a nuclear test or not, including the type of bomb, the yield and the mass and efficiency of the design.

Even a nut bag wouldn't test nukes above ground in an area the size of Massachusetts.

The other report stated there was a crater they could see in satellite images. These two reports don't add up. If there's a crater, it wasn't a forest fire, if there's no crater, maybe.
