That is what I understood. If a Brit requested it he/she would be given the name of a voter in that County to contact.

This is the paragraph from that Link:

The most powerful transatlantic connection is a personal one, so we have designed a system to match individual Guardian readers with individual voters in Clark County, in the crucial swing state of Ohio. To join in, visit www.guardian.co.uk/clarkcounty and enter your email address. You'll receive, by email, the name and postal address of a Clark County voter. We have included only those voters who chose to list themselves as unaffiliated, instead of as Republican or Democrat: that is no guarantee that they are persuadable, of course, but it does increase the chances. The data on which our system is based is publicly available, but we have designed it to give out each address only once, so there is no danger of recipients getting deluged.

This is so infuriating. I am speechless.

This is off topic but...if this stuff is all public knowledge - then why can't we go thru that media list and see who is a registered republican and feed them the info we find...All the info uncovered about Kerry that is posted here, instead of wasting time sending it to someone unsympathetic..

Here in my county we went online and found the registered voters list using our pc. Just about fell out of our seats the info on that site. Names, birthdates, addresses. Identity theft waiting to happen. We are in the process of asking questions.

I just recieved my undecided voter to contact from The Guardian. Here is the E-Mail:

Here is the address of your voter in Clark County, Ohio. When writing to him or her please be courteous and consider how you would feel if someone from Ohio was to write and advise you how to vote.

K****** M********
******** J********* RD
SPRINGFIELD
OH 45502
USA

If your address is incomplete, and for any correspondence, please email
clark.county@guardian.co.uk

To enter the competition to campaign in Clark County, email your letter to
clark.county@guardian.co.uk. For terms and conditions see below.

A few tips about writing to Clark County:

* Don't make any assumptions about the voter with whom you have been matched.
His or her name comes from the publicly available voters' roll. The voter has not registered any party affiliation. (We don't want individual Clark County voters bombarded with lobbying letters so this site will assign only one name and address to each user – please don't pass yours on to anyone else.)

* Explain why you think they should pay the slightest bit of attention to what you think about their election. Remember, charm will be far more effective than hectoring.
-------------------

The E-mail then goes on to explain that if you wish you may submit your letter as an entry in a Contest sponsored by The Guardain. They will pick the best Letters sent to these Ohio voters for a prize which happens to be a free trip to Ohio.

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

It was suggested that I remove the name and address of the contact that I received. So I did so.

Maybe some of us should write these voters and instead tell them how and where we got their names and suggest that they contact their county clerks, local media, and such. My sister in law is a Dr. in Springfield, OH and I am sure she isn't registered Republican or Democrat. She is voting for GWB, but I will have to call and tell her about this.

John Gibson on Fox just had this story on - he thinks it's ridiculous too.

This whole thing is just unbelievable. Who do these people think they are to tell us how to vote.
As an Ohioan, but not from Clark County, I can make up my own mind without interference from any of the EU telling how.

This almost makes me feel like we are having another 9/11 figuratively speaking, an invasion regarding our voting rights. Outrageous.

I don't go to UK websites and tell the Brits how to run their country. Their media should butt out.

EDIT: I just E-Mailed this letter to their editors:

Editors,

As an American citizen I am upset to the point of disgusted with this outside interference of our elections and the American voters. Especially this attempt: "Operation: Clark County".

I am at least courteous and respectful enough of your British culture not to stick my nose into something that is distinctly British.

So BUTT OUT of something distinctly American. Or, I invite you to change your citizenship, become American and vote whenever legally permissible.
