Putin urges voters to back Bush
By CNN Moscow Bureau Chief Jill Dougherty
Monday, October 18, 2004 Posted: 7:08 AM EDT (1108 GMT)

Putin says terrorists want to inflict "maximum damage to Bush."

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin says terrorist attacks in Iraq are aimed at preventing the re-election of U.S. President George W. Bush and that a Bush defeat "could lead to the spread of terrorism to other parts of the world."

Putin, speaking Central Asian Cooperation Organization summit in Tajikistan Monday, made his most overt comments of support so far for the re-election of Bush for a second term.

"Any unbiased observer understands that attacks of international terrorist organizations in Iraq, especially nowadays, are targeted not only and not so much against the international coalition as against President Bush," Putin said.

"International terrorists have set as their goal inflicting the maximum damage to Bush, to prevent his election to a second term.

"If they succeed in doing that, they will celebrate a victory over America and over the entire anti-terror coalition," Putin said.

"In that case, this would give an additional impulse to international terrorists and to their activities, and could lead to the spread of terrorism to other parts of the world."

Putin noted that American voters will not decide the election just on Iraq.

"Because of this we must take a realistic approach and be prepared for any development of events," he said. "We respect any choice the American people will make."

President Putin made it clear Russia remained opposed to the war in Iraq.

"Today, our views on that differ from the views of President Bush," he said.

Putin has always contended that islamic fundamentalist terrorists hate anything that is not islamic. They hate Russians, Americans, jews, catholics, athiests and anyone who was not of their faith. They especially hate America because of its ideals.
They see Bush as a person who is committed and won't back down. They see Kerry as an appeasment weasel who they can exploit.

Sorry Admin. Double posting with the one under "Putin is lecturing Democrats".

This is a great news since it takes a Russian president to state the obvious--that the terrorists want to elect Kerry--to the Democrats who are trying to politize the recent bombings in Iraq.

So, it's official?

Do we scratch Putin's name off of John Kerry's list of imaginary foreign leader friends, now? Wink

Putin has long had his hands full with Islamofascists. Chechnya, for one. You know what the Russians told CENTCOM after we opened up Operation Enduring Freedom, right? "You wouldn't have this problem if you had let us win."

Ouch. But, there were other issues at the time, so that's that.

Anyway, Putin is a old KGB weasel, but he would rather have Bush as POTUS because what guys like Putin hate most of all is uncertainty, and Kerry is nothing if not inconsistent. Then there is the whole issue of the stupidity of Kerry's remarks wrt bilateral talks with N. Korea; that could not have made Putin happy.

Putin is definately on Bush's side.

Just don't forget that he's still the head of a former (and dormant) superpower and doesn't want to be seen as subservient to anyone by his own people.

I predict that the Putin-Bush alliance will hit off in the second term of Bush's presidency. I think USA-Russa has the potential to develop into a REAL alliance in the future. This won't happen in a day, but waiyt and see..

A russio-American alliance forged under Bush's second term will make him a statesman of Reagan caliber with regard to interenational security.

Listen carefully: Putin is not to be trusted. Repeat: Putin is not to be trusted. A Russian/American alliance as Reagan had with Gorbachev is not going to happen in the same way. Putin is no Gorbachev.

Putin coming out with statements appearing to be pro-Bush are simply self-serving. Putin knows Bush is a strong ally in fighting terrorists, while Kerry is too weak and indecisive to be of any use. Again, the world community can deal with anything but uncertainty, and Kerry offers nothing but.

Putin has used Beslan to squelch his opposition and move away from democracy. He is not a nice man.

The enemy of my enemy is not my friend. Don't get warm and fuzzy about Putin, or you will be wearing a knife between your shoulder blades.
