I'd be just as steamed if the Marine Corps started screwing around with their dress blues. (IMO, the most aesthetically beautiful uniform in the Armed Forces, with crackerjack blues a close second)

I can't believe the Navy is talking that khaki and black crap to replace them - good Lord, are we trying to look like some kind of Middle Eastern army?

The Navy tried to put everyone in suits and ties and "salt & peppers" back in the 70's and learned that lesson and transitioned back to the crackerjack whites and blues in the 80's. Now, they're following the Air Force down this "faux camo" road for no good reason whatsoever.

I think Hondo must be right - someone is making big money or promotion points off of all this changing of uniforms and meddling with traditions.

I'm having a hard time staying out of this one!

I rather liked my "crackerjacks", thirteen buttons and all. I never did get to wear my flathat, but thought it would have been great!

There just wasn't anything like a good pair of Seafarer dungrees and a white hat.

I did a little zinc chromate, light deck gray and dark deck gray and don't remember getting any on me, even hanging off a MK 37 gun director.

My wife has always liked the square knots I tie in her apron strings and etc, just like in the old days of tieing my neckerchief before going on liberty!

The best working uniform for looks and comfort was a set
of starched seafarer dungarees and white hat. Cotton ball
hat at sea. Keep a couple of sets of really stained and
raggety ones for cleaning watersides and firesides on the
boilers.

Dress blues made of blue melton for winter. Fold and place
between your matress and canvas bunk bottom to keep them
neat and pressed while at sea.

Heavy starched whites stack really well in a seabag and if
you get stuck in someplace like Travis AFB waiting for a flight
overseas, you can sleep on your seabag, then, when you get
up, wander into the head for a washup and pull out a fresh
set of whites. Everyone else is trying to find something that
looks halfway spiffy out of a carry on bag.

Those were really the good old days? I remember being stacked 5 high on fold up racks with canvas bottoms and a piece of line lacing the whole bottom in. The chains helped keep you in when you ran into high seas!

Jarheads don't have any concept of good looking uniforms until you get to dress uniforms. At least our dress blues were functional and we got to wear ours more than one time a year!

TRADITION???? No honest to God real Chief's initiation anymore, Pansied down shellback initiation, time-out cards in boot camp, I don't wanna do this - please send me home from boot camp, sexual harassment, on and on, adnausium. Those idiots in DC can't make up their minds to Fight, F**K or run a foot race !!! I wonder whose brother-in-law has the uniform contract???? AND NOW they're going to issue khaki shirts to E6 and below ???!!!! UUUUUGGGGGHHHH

This does bring back memories. Back in the early '70s, there was an "All Nav" message that came out. It described the "new" fabric that henceforth would be used in Navy uniforms. It stated that the new fabric would be known as "Certified Uniform Navy Twill".

The next day, another "All Nav" message came out that changed the name of the material.

Just think about it. We all know how the military likes to shorten things down to just letters.

LOL! You know, the first allnav stuck around for a LONG time - in the early 80's, we still laughed about the designation of the fabric our uniforms were made of.

They may have issued an immediate change to the allnav, but the original designation stuck around forever!
