| Just wondering when and why Kerry got his pilot's license. He returned from Vietnam in April '69, and we know he flew anti-war activists to rallies in Oct '69. If he was interested in flying, why didn't he become an Aviator? Did he get his license after his return? Seems like a pretty short period in order to get a private pilot's license. Did he get it specifically at the request of VVAW or other activist groups to be able to ferry activists around, possibly as suggested in other posts, to such places as Cuba? |

| It's pretty obvious Kerry was looking for a "safe" job in the Navy. Military aviation is dangerous by definition, especially during a shooting war, regardless of branch of service. No surprise to me that he didn't apply for Naval flight training. I suspect he had a private pilot's license before he joined the Navy. |

The "flying dog" VC, upon return from VN opened a flight school in
or near the Boston Glop's print shop and he did the teaching of
Kerry, etal on "flights of fancy" I do not know where he learned to
fly, if he did and if he did the flying he says he did , do you have
4th and 5 th party sightings on the actual take off and landing.
and did some one sit in the co's seat to see him do it.
other thant that have a nice day on the ground non flying Kerry,

I've read elsewhere that his father advised him not to become an aviator, as it would ruin flying for him. Cant find the link for that quote at the moment.
