I picked up "We were soldiers". Was not sure if it was accurate movie or not. It is a Mel Gibson movie so I took a chance. I have not had time to watch it yet. What do ya think? _________________

In my opinion either number 1 or 2 top movie on Nam. Except for some (most?) of the scenes at Ft. Benning it follows the 1st half of the book fairly accurately. _________________ A Grunt

The person whose life he portrayed (don't remember name) was with him during alot of the filming. I remember seeing a report about it. I know they spent alot of time together. |

The movie is accurate. My partner here at work was there, in the air, as a spotter. I have no reason to doubt him. He is a disabled vet too. His damn airplane fell out of the sky. _________________ Fix the problem, not the blame.

Thanks everyone. My sons wanted to see somes movies like this. They love hearing me talk about the Swift Vets and all the others. We love to watch TRUE stories like this one. We are going to watch it right now. They loved Stolen Honor and F-Hype. It is my job to make sure my kids know the truth and remeber the Vets and give them the respect the have earned. _________________

Hi SoV,
The man on the right is Bill Franklin, he was a Platoon Leader in 1-7 Cav and was there. I had the wonderful experience of seeing the film with him and my father. Bill said the movie is probably about 90% accurate.

It is based on a book, and forgive me the night is late, but I think the title is "We were soldiers once". _________________ John Kerry. A Neville Chamberlain for our times. |

I think the full title is We were Soldiers Once and Young" written by the journalist that was along on the mission and the commander - it contains actual pictures and some very good note/appendices on the politics that affected how the war was fought. |

I am currently reading "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young. The reports name is Galloway and it is co-written by Gen. Hal Moore (Ret). I saw the movie when it was out in the theaters. It is a good one but I must say the book is MUCH better. |

That movie took me back to 1963-65 when I was in 5th and 6th grade. My dad was stationed at Ft. Benning and worked in the Tactical Evaluation and Control (TEC) Group. They were the guys that designed and tested the airmobile concept of helicopter warfare. The Benning scenes in the movie looked just as I remembered it. _________________ "The price of freedom is eternal vigilence" - Thomas Jefferson

When mentioning "We Were Soldiers" It would be wrong to not mention Flying Ace Major Bruce P. (Snake) Crandall. "He is from the cloth that Heroes are cut from."
