I feel the need to share an e-mail I just wrote to my son with you people
... geedunk is probably where this is headed ...
*************************************
This is the third time the Kerry campaign has physically came over or called wanting to get hold of "*****".
Today's was one of the best:
ring-ring-ring (damn ... Jeanie's over at Marthas) ...
me: "hello"
her: "is ***** ***** available, please?"
me: "no, he's out at the moment"
her: "do you know if he'll be back soon?
me: "sort of depends on what you think soon is"
her: "Oh. I'm calling from the DNC, and wanted to touch bases"
me: "you probably can't get hold of him in time, then"
her: "is there another way to contact him?"
me: "yes, but you probably don't want to go to the effort"
her: "that's OK, tell me"
me: "well, he's either in Fuji, Japan, or maybe headed back to Okinawa
You might try calling his Marine commander.
They might set up something with the personnel department,
But I think you need to get hold of the base commander first"
her: "Oh, I see"
me: "You sent somebody over to the house a couple weeks ago, too"
her: "We did?"
me: "Yes. The lady walked past my pickup truck, which has a bumper sticker that reads SINK KERRY SWIFTLY. You know, the one in the pattern of the Vietnam Campaign ribbon?"
her: "OH YES ... nervous giggle"
me: "I'm guessing you're aware we differ politically, now?"
her: "(more nervous giggle) ... Absolutely. We'll remove the name from the list" |

I love it! Good call!
It's fun to play around with some of these people when they call.
I just wish there weren't so many recorded messages. I've had four or five, today - three from the Bush campaign, which I listen to, one from an anti-Bush campaign, which I hung up and another from the opposition to the Senator for whom I voted, which I also hung up.
I probably should have listened to the anti-Bush call - but it started right off in a Michael Moore-on direction about secret plans for a 20% sales tax after the election. Good Lord! _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

I think I remember Bush indicating that he was willing to evaluate a "national sales tax" in lieu of income tax, which is probably where that came from.
If done "properly" (don't start fooling around deciding whether food is exempt, and whether Twinkies and Cheetos qualify as food, and on and on and on), I'm not opposed to the concept.
BUT, that's an after-election topic. |

.....I keep them on the line as long as I can. As long as they are talking to me, they are not converting another voter. _________________ "Full Tour Grunt" |

And I let the entire message play so they have to pay for the call. I just got a really bad imitation of Bill Clinton calling this afternoon! |
