Sent this to the local rag this am.

They did pick up my last one "I'm no war hero." Army Times may also. The Coalition of Kooks is starting to piss me off.

Quote:
Mr. Editor,
For consideration.

"Loyal Opposition" is not a term to describe the current day Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld bashers. Civility and, vastly more importantly, veracity are jettisoned over the transom with their feckless, mean spirited attacks.

Take for instance the 27 June letter to your paper titled "Bush's men create their own problems."

The writer wants us to believe Cheney hypocritically criticizes Kerry for blocking funds for the same military hardware that Cheney himself "vetoed" as Secretary of Defense. Also that these were really obsolete, Cold War weapons. Facts are that Kerry voted against funding the $87 Billion Iraq Supplemental this year and, over the years, against all of the following: the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, M-1 Abrams Tank, Aegis anti-aircraft system, F-15 Strike Eagle, B-2 Stealth, Patriot Missile System, Apache Helicopter, Trident Missile, and AV-8B Harrier jets. I'm not a military hardware expert, but if these are obsolete Cold War materials, I'm Yoda. Besides the Secretary of Defense doesn't possess fiscal "veto" power over squat.

Bottom line, Sir, is that Mr. Kerry's voting record is pathetically anti-military and anti-defense. You can try to sneak away from it, but you can't hide from it. The perfume is not made that will cover that up.

The letter goes on to jointly libel Cheney and Halliburton as "unethical" and having a "long discredited theory of success." Once again, we stumble off unencumbered by facts. They are as follows: Halliburton has a multiyear contract for a corporation to be on call to provide emergency, classified, logistic services to the Pentagon. Called LOGCAP, it is competitively bid. To my knowledge, there is not now, or has there ever been, one iota of proof that Halliburton with Cheney have acted unethically. None. Period. Zip. Allegations are plentiful, proof is non-existent. Witness how fast CNN, the AP, the BBC and Reuters recently had to backpedal after their initial false, accusations on this subject.

As a matter for the record, it may interest some to know that the Clinton Administration awarded identical "no bid" contracts to the evil Halliburton for work in the Balkans. Unethical? Al Gore's Reinventing-Government panel singled out the traitors at Halliburton for praise for its military logistics work. Discredited theory? Revisionism is alive and well in good old New Bern!

Secretary Rumsfeld is an evasive, slick, buck passer? Surely you jest! That's a knee slapper, first class.

To conclude, the writer tells us that, because of Cheney and Rumsfeld, the next time "another, more urgent, member of the axis of evil shows up we won't have the will, the resources, or the support to combat it." With all due respect, Sir, as long as we have citizenry cynically willing to falsely accuse the administration of grievous motives and wrongs, we will indeed diminish our collective ability to fight our enemies. Having an opinion and expressing it is great. Maliciously trashing someone without a shred of evidence is not OK in my book.

To our mutual benefit, I would suggest all concentrate on facts and lighten up on the bomb throwing rhetoric. One might not like Bush and the others, but they didn't fly the planes on 9/11, or bomb the USS Cole, or behead Berg and Johnson. Radical Muslim fanatics did. We should try to remember that as opposed to eating our own.
