I have turned off all forms of media, before my head explodes. Digging through the garage and found an old shipboard light. It is one of those you would have found in a berthing compartment, with a mirror under it. White case, about 2.5 ft long, with an electric outlet on the side. Toggle switch operates it.
It has a red, white, black and green wire. What wires do I need to hook up a 3 prong plug on it? Are some for the light and others for the outlet? I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to things electrical, but if pointed in the right direction, I can usually keep from getting shocked.
Yes, I have had my yearly electrical safety lecture, and also watched "110 Volts, Shipboard Killer."
Thanks for any help. _________________ Phil Toth

Will a old Coast Guard Electricians Mate do?
White wire to silver prong Black wire to bronze looking prong and green to ground . This is pretty standard Now the red has me puzzled if it is 110 volts.
single phase
If for some reason this is 3 phase then black, white and red makes no never mind but green is still ground _________________ "Si vis pacem, para bellum" |

White (the neutral) goes to silver prong
Red AND Black (the hots) go to bronze prong
Green is the ground and it goes to the green screw
Good luck. Don't blow yourself up. |

Thanks, Sparkys!! If I'm not back in a couple of days, you'll know I'm "stuck" to a bulkhead somewhere! _________________ Phil Toth
