I was born in Dallas, so it hasn't always been tough. The only drive-by shootings around here are when I lean out my jeep window and shoot a snake. Most of the kind you are talking about are down in the San Luis Valley or across the New Mexico line.

You are one smart lady KimmyMac, thanks.

Kimmymac,

Wasn't that just a normal "law", restricting Reagan? Not an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. An amendment would have to go through all the ratification process with the States, getting rid of it the same deal. I don't remember all that, and it's not in the copy I have of the Constitution, which does show the 18th amendment and it's repeal (21st Amendment.)
Correct me if I'm slippin'.

The rest of your info. fits my recollection pretty well, though you do leave out Kerry's role in all that (Kerry as Senator basically trying to do for the Sandinistas what he did for the North Vietnamese!) Others could expound on that far better than I...

To the rest of you, I'd like to thank you for all I've learned and / or been nudged into recollection, on this board.

OK, I'm old enough to remember that whole deal. How can anyone forget Fawn Hall? To this very day, everytime I go to the shredder I announce "I"m going to do my Fawn Hall impression"...lol

As for Ollie. Wow...that man just gets better with age. I remember him standing in his uniform looking like a Hero. He is a true American hero and what he did for President Reagan was beyond words. He took an oath as an officer to defend the Constitution and obey the orders of the President of the United States. He did.

God Bless America.

Ollie actually did take the heat off of Reagan but what was happening was the the libs were trying to derail Reagan like they did to Nixon. If my memory serves me right Ollie was either aquitted of all charges or the case was dropped. Either way Ollie slammed the liberals. Actually Ollie didn't even get a little tarnish on his medals not like John Kerry.

As far as Nixon. Yes I agree that he was one of our finest Presidents. What they trashed him for John Kerry was doing in Lowell, Mass.. Didn't get reported though in the MSM only in the Lowell Sun. The reality of the Nixon Presidency was though was he wanted the release of all POWs and he wanted accountability on the MIAs. On the other hand John Kerry could have cared less about them. If Kerry had gotten his way we would never had the reunion of the Swiftvets and POWs for truth. The Documentary Stolen Honor would never had been made and those men would still be rotting in Vietnam like the many still un accounted for. IT was Nixon who delayed for another 19 years the ability for ohn Fen. Kerry to finally write of the MIAs so he could normalize reletions with Vietnam and his commie buddys thanks to Bill Clinton. By the way Swiftees. Bill and Hillary CLinton were also hugh supporters of the VVAW back in the 70s. Hillary was also a Lawyer who was on the impeachment panel going after President Nixon. My opinion is that what happened to the MIAs would not have happened if Nixon was left in office.

Will fact check the Biden deal. Thanks for the heads up. Will print a retraction if needed. (Hey, I ain't CBS...I admit it if I am wrong.) But, like CBS I will say that the content is true: it was a blatant attempt to usurp Executive branch powers. I also didn't go into all the ways that Kerry was involved in supporting the Sandinistas because that is a whole other book. But ABSOLUTELY he was up to his skinny @$$ in his usual modus operandi of anti-American subversive activities.

USMCWayne: Adult supervision is over rated. In Foreign Policy matters, all too often it is the State Dept providing Adult Supervision. 'Nuff said.

I promised dmack I would get my crap together and write a more comprehensive, fact checked piece for the PAJAMA JOURNAL on Iran Contra. So for anyone really interested, stay tuned. Iran-Contra, IMO, is still revelant because most of the players are still on stage, or at least working the curtains and lights.

Re: The Nightingale's Song:

Unfortunate POW experience aside,
John McCain neither was nor is a "great" American... he CERTAINLY doesn't belong in the same sentence as Oliver North!

I may be 3rd generation Navy, but through Oliver North, the Marines once again showed us how to be MEN! You cannot, by ANY remote stretch of the imagination say the same for Mr. McCain.

3rd Gen: Agree with you wrt McCain. Have felt that way a long time, and when he was making his run for the WH I made many enemies among the Navy folks that we hung with for being unalterably opposed to him. Tough crap. Said it before and I'll say it again: McCain is a snake.

Paul R: I knew I wasn't crazy--was doing the dishes when I remembered THE BOLAND AMENDMENT was the name of the amendment which made it illegal to fund the pro-democracy Contras in their fight to overthrow the Marxist Sandinista govt of Nicarauga. (How could I forget the filthiest piece of legislation ever cooked up?)

Background: During the early years of the Reagan administration, a civil war raged in Nicaragua, pitting the elected pro-Marxist Sandinista leaders of the Nicaraguan government against CIA-financed Contra rebels. When the CIA carried out a series of acts of sabotage without congressional intelligence committees giving consent, or even being made aware beforehand, the Senate became enraged, leading to the passage of the Boland Amendment and subsequent cutting off of funding for the Contras.

An absolute power grab by the bastiges in the Senate.

Iran Contra ruined the career of Ollie North, hero or not. He now has a gig on TV, but his military career was ruined. The hysterical democrats also ruined the careers of dozens of Reagan's aides, including Cap Weinberger, Elliot Abrams, Robert McFarlane, John Poindexter, Richard Secord, Ed Meese and many other honorable men, each of whom are worth a dozen Tip O'Neill's, Chris Dodds, Joe Bidens, Ted Kennedys, and John Kerrys

So: How is it that we expect the CIA to do what it is that needs to be done to advance and protect American interests while we also demand full oversight? (No secrets.) Outed agents=dead agents. Just ask the bastard MIT prof and former Clinton appointee who was head of the CIA how many dead agents he is responsible for.

After 9/11 when the CIA was blamed for dropping the ball (as usual its blame the spooks, because they can;t really fight back) I liked the comment that "You can't chain your dogs up in the yard and then get angry at them when they don't bite the burglars."

The Biden Amendmwent was to the War Powers Act, not the Constitution. The Senate Committee thought they had a target with Ollie, that is Lt.Col. North. Ollie creamed them, especially Sen. (hic) Kennedy.

When he was in Iraq with the troops he was Lt.Col. North USMC retired. Still a Marine taking care of his men, not just a journalist.

KimmyMac, couldn't have said it better myself. The leftist bastards in congress basically screwed things up to where the communists where almost 400 miles from texas as the crow flies. The Iran-contra thing was brilliant. They sold Iran garbage, and took the money to finance the anti-communist contras to fight against the sandanistsas who Iran was hoping would win. We put egg on the Iran leaders face by financing the wrong side of the war from his perspective, got some hostages released, got rid of some antique weapons, and ran the communists out of the region.

The leftists in a million years could never achieve that type of success. Like Ann coulter says, they can't win wars.

My apologies for mis-speaking: by extra-constitutional I was referring to the fact that the Boland Amendment meant to extra-constitutionally amend the powers of the Constitution, rather than seek to amend the actual document. It is why I need an editor, more's the pity.

I apologize for the mis step.

Everything else stands as written.

During one of the MIA/POW hearings McCain went off on a family member. Basically saying 'give it up'. I think it was Ann Holland he charged. I'll try to search my records for the report. kerry wanted him as he remembers McCain supported his desire to normalize relations with the Viets so his cousin could receive contracts worth hundreds of millions for rebuilding.
