Rove Credits Swiftvets with 'Energizing' Bush Vote
Bush Cheney reelection architect Karl Rove gave credit on Sunday to the Swiftboat Veterans and POWs for Truth for exposing John Kerry's anti-war past and energizing Republican voters to turnout at the polls.
Asked what role anti-Kerry ads sponsored by the Swiftvets played in Bush's reelection victory, Rove told "Fox News Sunday":
"They were made important by the fact that Sen. Kerry, at his convention, really talked . . . only about Vietnam."
The top White House advisor explained: "I was amazed by the people that I met around the country who were energized by that issue being discussed . . . I was really amazed by how strongly men and women who had served in Vietnam and in the Armed Forces felt about that."
Rove recalled that his uncle had done several tours of duty in Vietnam. "I've never been able to think of Col. Verhi as somebody who would have 'raped and pillaged in a manner reminiscent of Genghis Khan'," a reference to Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony where he accused Vietnam veterans of committing widespread atrocities. _________________ Deportè Monsieur Kerrè |

I'm amazied that he is dumb enough to , say that something like
that re: something that inportant "amazed him.
carl row, row the boat to slow, almost let the "nut case Kerry in"
he almost lost the Bush race to "all gorey" and this time he advised
the Pres. to use the "he served with honor words time after time"
he could have let Pres. Bush, say, my own service record is out there
for every one to see, Sen. Kerry should do the same.
not, the above and "not one good word about the Switf Boat Vets
or the OTHER 3,000,000 either, "playing it safe for themselfs'
and letting the "truth lay fallow by the side"
nut case opinion, the 2nd amentment thing. _________________ the strange mr aj |

This always bothered me too! The Republicans said that whatever Kerry did after his "service" was "fair game," then they never mentioned it. I never understood why. They never took the gloves off.

It was a good thing that Bush and Rove did not discuss the Swifties, otherwise the colusion agrument would have had some weight. Re Bush saying Kerry "honorably served" Bush made his service less an issue and he let the Swifties do his work for him. In time I am sure Bush will state in his biography the truth about how much he appreciated the Swifties in his reelection. History was made and we can all be thankful of any small part we played. |

The accusations coming from the men who served with John Kerry in Viet Nam and the POWs and their wives affected by Kerry’s actions after returning from Viet Nam were much more effective than if they had come from the President. Trust me, both the President and Vice-President know and appreciate the major contribution to their win. The way it played out made it the truth instead of political mudslinging. _________________ I was going to become an anarchist, but they had too many rules. |
