Backing Bush has won you nothing, Chirac tells Britain

Mr. Chirac, speaking to British journalists, including The Times, soon after General Powell’s announcement, revealed that he had urged Mr. Blair to demand the re-launch of the Middle East peace process in return for backing the war.

“Well, Britain gave its support but I did not see anything in return. I’m not sure it is in the nature of our American friends at the moment to return favors systematically.”

In other remarks that will sting the Bush Administration, he again outlined his vision of a “multi-polar” world in which a united Europe would be equal with the US, and mocked Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defense Secretary, for his division of Europe into old and new.

Why don’t we just add France to list of State Sponsors of Terrorism? They are selling nuclear technology to Iran and before the war selling weapons to Iraq. All while stealing food out of the mouths of Iraqi babies in the oil for food UN scheme. If you look deep enough they most likely have some French arms salesmen visiting Bin Ladin.

Enough is enough! Call up the Germans and tell them to take France back! We made a mistake liberating them.

Perhaps, Mr Chirac should explain his authorizing the invasion of the Ivory Coast, without giving inspectors a chance and without building an international coalition?

And, what possible French interest is there? Cocoa?

The level of hypocrisy is stunning.

I think Chirac overstates the link between France and Britain as he stated here in the same article:

“It is like that nice guy in America — what’s his name again? — who spoke about ‘old Europe’. It has no sense. It’s a lack of culture to imagine that. Imagining that there can be division between the British and French vision of Europe is as absurd as imagining that we are building Europe against the United States.”

It wouldn't be the first time some pompous Euro decided they were the one to rule the world Mr. Chirac.

Methinks M. Chirac's doing a good job of seeing his vision bear fruit...
a multipolar world is what we've got- with all this dissent, we're definitely a polarized world. Bi-polar in some instances.

Let us not forget in 1975 when Saddam and then-Prime Minister Chirac made a deal to build a nuclear reactor in Shhh-Iraq. We can thank the Israelis for getting rid of THAT!

What did Tony Blair get for backing the United States in Iraq? Probably a future British base in southern Iraq, for starters! Also, a strong ally in Iraq after the January 2005 elections, plus strong credentials with the defenders of freedom in Italy, Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines. Not bad for a socialist!

Meanwhile, Chirac and Schroeder joined the "coalition of the bribed" by Saddam, and Putin is straddling the fence, because friendship with the United States can be useful when terrorists are blowing up theaters and schools in Russia...

Chirac should be asking himself, "what did opposing the US get me?" The answer is nothing good. He lost Iraq as one of his biggest trading partners, his country is implicated in the oil for food scandal, exports to the US are way down as is tourist trade from the US, Germany and Russia have distanced themselves from him on this, he has shown himself a hypocrite by threatening to and acting unilaterally in Haiti and the Ivory Coast, Poland and other former Soviet Bloc members of NATO don't trust him and he's made a laughing stock of his country in ours.

Something he should learn from Britain, the US is a great friend and a horrible enemy. It is time we begin to treat France with the same hostility that they treat us.

Perhaps chirac should worry more about the embers starting to heat up in his own country. Anti-semitism, islamo-fascist and a declining population should keep him busy for the next 20 yrs. Europe will be a historical footnote in 30 yrs.

The French will only be on your side if they think that there is something in it for them. This time it has backfired. Don't be suprised if they are still trading through the backdoor. Take all and give nothing should be their national anthem.
