Massachusetts Dems recently gathered for an election 2004 post-mortem with Kerry's brother as a featured spinner. Needless to say, it was the "process" and not their stellar candidate's CV that caused the loss.

Now they're focusing on 2006 and the Mass Gubernatorial race using a tried and true campaign strategy...ABR...Anyone But Romney. You'd think by now they'd have learned that "Anyone But X" is an easy sell at campaign meetings but does little to inspire the average voter. This one will be fun to watch....

Focus now on electing 'anyone but Romney' in 2006

In a gathering that was equal parts catharsis and pep rally, members of the Brookline Democratic Town Committee turned out in force last week to share stories, opinions and hope.

The meeting - billed as "Reflections on the 2004 Campaign (And How We Move Forward)" - drew a standing-room-only crowd of about 100 at Devotion School Library, attracted by the star power of top aides for the John Kerry presidential campaign, each of whom was asked to answer "why we lost," by DTC President Cindy Rowe.

Brookline resident Cameron Kerry, who is Sen. Kerry's brother, was prominent among an inner circle of top campaign advisers. From his perspective, Cameron Kerry told DTC members that the election was won thanks to the head start Republicans had to form grassroots support organizations, precinct by precinct, in battleground states such as Ohio.

"The [Republicans were] out doing this for six years before the election ... [spreading] incredible disinformation," said Kerry.

"At end of [the] day, if we look at security moms and Osama Bin Laden's message the weekend before the election, and some other things, we didn't quite close the gap enough on national security," he added. "We came close to closing that deal, but we didn't quite get there."

In reviewing the presidential campaign, Kerry was joined by fellow campaign advisers Jack Corrigan and David Friedman.

"The truth is, this was a close election and [Republicans] did better job of getting out their vote," said Corrigan. He went on to cite a series of positive results, however, including the increase in total votes that Kerry garnered compared to Al Gore's total in 2000. But Corrigan agreed that the time to start working on a successful Democratic effort in 2008 is now.

"The lesson of this campaign is the earlier you start organizing, the better off you are," he said.

Friedman, who headed up the Kerry campaign's legal team in Florida, said that although John Kerry was "a strong candidate" with "an incredibly well-run campaign," a variety of factors, from attack ads by swift boat veterans to an outmatched press team, served to provide the margin George Bush needed to win.

Despite success in vote counts in urban areas of Florida, Friedman said the campaign faltered in its communication to include voters in the suburbs, who he said were "mostly white, with good jobs" in strong public school districts. "We didn't have a broad message," said Friedman. He added that in a typical Florida campaign field office, "I didn't see 'Floridians for Kerry' or 'Americans for Kerry' buttons ... or 'White People in Boring Homes for Kerry.'"

Other reasons for Kerry's loss seemed decidedly ironic. In a reference comparing John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1960, to Kerry's bid in 2004, Cameron Kerry said, "The last time a Catholic from Massachusetts ran, people worried that he'd take orders from the church. This time, we had fundamentalists lobbying the church to give [John Kerry] orders."

All three campaign officials took turns praising the work of DTC members, about half of whom raised their hands when asked if they had traveled to battleground states for the Kerry campaign.

"I'm grateful for all of the help we had from Brookline for Kerry ... it was an extraordinary thing," said Cameron Kerry.

"I asked awful lot of people to do things, the only answer I ever got was 'OK,'" added Corrigan.

Shifting the topic of discussion to the 2006 gubernatorial race, Corrigan summed up the consensus of DTC members who spoke on the issue. "What we have to do next is get rid of Mitt Romney ... we're for anyone but Mitt Romney," said Corrigan.

In doing so, Buckminster Road resident Donald Weitzman urged sharpening the definition between the two parties' candidates. "Democrats have to stop being 'Republican light.' Right now, we don't have an opposition party..." he said.

Others noted the Democrats should not cede territory when it comes to values.

"We have moral values just as much as the right wing, we just have a different way of pursuing them," said Davis Avenue resident Drusilla Pratt-Otto.

The meeting also included an opportunity to simply vent, during which Rowe called on anyone with a hand raised to make any comment they wished. At the end of the session, a voice in the crowd could be heard saying, "That felt good."

"A different way of pursuing them", is radical left spin for liberty before life which means your freedom takes a back seat to me as long as I want something. I,I,I,ME,ME,ME ok you can have your freedom now, I am too fat and absorbed of you now.

The Democratic Party is rotting from the inside out.

Webster's Dictionary will redefine a Liberal as: One who supports antisocial and lawless behavior for their perception of what they think is right. Displaying a shrill voice that rises in octaves and persistence as another view is discussed is a trademark of Liberals. Bigotry and contempt for Christians are “Badges of Honor” worn by Liberals as they undermine society. Cradle to Grave support in a socialist run country by a Central Government is the Utopia each Liberal dreams about.

This is the Clintonization of the party. The cesspool/gutter politics of the Arkansas Mafia with Shrum, Old Serpent head, Lanny Davis, Begala, McAuful and the like. Ickes is a Hillary hack, bet he's in there too. Negativity, Character assasination and slander is where they think the public mind is. Most of AMerica has had enough of it. People want to feel good about themselves, their country and leadership. The Clintonoids do not give anyone any positive motivation to vote for them. It's all sour negativity with gloom and doom WHine, Whine, Whine. They haven't figured it out either. TS when they continue to lose.

Security moms. When I hear that it makes me mad. They coined the term soccer moms: a title to compliment and thereby draw the busy, young, intelligent women who were so busy shuttling kids hither thither and yon to the sophisticated sport.

I can't help but think they view security moms as young, scared, idiot women with babies. What they didn't know (and still don't) was that security moms include those of us who love the fight and psychology of football because of what it teaches, includes those moms who love and respect our military, and even have sons and daughters serving in the military...those moms- who didn't want a boob in charge.

The Friday after 9/11 we had a high school football game. I vowed, of any game, this was one we would not lose because the long-term psychological benefits to our boys...who were fast approaching draft age.
My second year of encouraging this team, particularly by carrying a huge flag to each game, by the fourth quarter I could not sit in the stands. We had one opportunity to get a winning touchdown. I went to the end of the field and stood near the end zone waving my flag, yelling at them to meet me at the goal. By God, they did.

Standing room only crowd of 100? Sounds like the crowds that came out to see Kerry after the election. With the list of what went wrong, the meeting must have lasted long into the night. Kerry won't uphold long standing beliefs that his church requires and folks were expected to believe he'd uphold only 200+ years of what the consitution requires? Please. It's obvious he doesn't respect life or he would have apologized to Vietnam vets for what he did. Whether he did it either for fame and fortune or out of youthful ignorance doesn't matter. If he can't see the impact of thirty years of his actions on the lives of American he must be blind, how could he be expected to see the dangers of jihadists today or tomorrow. The only explanation is that he doesn't want to or he's just stupid.

Yeah, you came close, Kerry. But close doesn't count in football. There's always a loser. Go back in the locker room and watch the film, baby. No, not F911 The SwiftVets film.

Thanks again, Vets.
