Merry Christmas to you all. May Santa bring you lots of joy. Here is a poem written by one of our people over at the Balad Hospital. It was sent to me by one of my soldiers I adopted. Thought it was cute and would share with you guys.
‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through Iraq
Not a patient was stirring, so I hit the sack;
Imipenem was hung by each patient’s bed
Staphylococcus would soon be dead.
The SI’s were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of IEDs danced in their heads;
The colonel in his flight suit and authorized cap
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,
Alarm Red sounded across Anaconda,
I ran to the bunker though I didn’t wanna
Away to the exit, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the zippers and threw up the flap.
The moon reflected on the powdery sand,
Gave the luster of midday to the foreign land,
When, what to my wondering eyes did appear,
An armored humvee with a case full of beer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
Fast as F-16s his convoy it came
And he whistled, and shouted and called them by name;
“Now Labatts, now Miller, Budweiser, and Guinness
On Corona, on Coors, on Heineken, Killians
To the top of the trailer, to the top of the tents,
Now stash away! Stash away, but don’t give them dents.”
As helicopters from the landing pad fly,
The hospital shakes, and the internees cry.
So up to the heights our morale flew,
Knowing the bad guys were off to Abu.
And then on the intercom I heard them say,
“MASCAL in the ER, come save the day”.
We ran to the ER, expecting the sick
But instead of marines, sat good old St. Nick.
He was dressed in all brown, from his head to his foot
And his DCU’s were all dusted with burn pit soot.
A bundle of mail, he had flung on his back;
And he looked like a solider, weighed down with his pack.
His eyes – how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry.
His uniform pressed, blousing straps ‘round his legs;
And the beard on his chin was not within regs!
A hajji shop pipe he held tight in his teeth;
And the smoke smelled suspiciously like hashish.
He had a broad face, and a firm and toned belly,
From a hundred miles to Baghdad and DFAC 2’s deli.
He was sure fit to fight, a right jolly ol’ elf;
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye, and a shot of his gun
And I wasn’t scared, and I didn’t run.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
And filled all the stockings, and turned with a jerk.
He went to the CASF to get a ride home,
Flew to the North Pole, with a brief stop in Nome.
He jumped in the plane, to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew, like the sound of missile;
But I heard him exclaim, ere he flew out of sight,
“Merry Christmas Iraq, and to all a Good Night”
God bless all our men and women past and present for their service to our Country. |
