Team Bush fights filing on Ohio poll

COLUMBUS, Ohio - President Bush's reelection campaign asked the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court yesterday to throw out a challenge of the election in this swing state, saying the case resembles "a poorly drafted script for a late-night conspiracy-theory movie."
The court filing was made as the Rev. Jesse Jackson held a rally before hundreds of people in Columbus to support the challenge and urge the U.S. Senate to debate Ohio's results on Thursday, when Congress is in joint session for the official tally of the electoral votes.

Thirty-seven Ohio voters filed the challenge. Some say they are suspicious of Bush's victory over Sen. John Kerry, while others say hours-long waits in heavily black neighborhoods caused voters to leave in frustration without casting a ballot.

"In 2000, if Al Gore had just held on and fought to the bitter end, he would have been President," said Mark Lomax, a black Columbus musician. "I kind of have the same feeling now - whether or not you like John Kerry, that's not the issue. It's just that your vote counts."

Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican, said there's no reason to prolong the election.

You are so right, GM Strong. That is the point I have been making
for four years. The wrong that the MSM did George Bush by calling
the election early can never be undone. I'm sure that it also affected
the voting in the western states which allowed Gore to win the popular
vote. It's funny that the Dems never mention this when they complain
that George Bush "stole" the 2000 election.

The Dems cry that they want every vote to count. But just whose vote do they want counted? The vote of the unregistered, the vote of those who do not supply an address, the vote of those who want to vote multiple times, the vote of the dead, the vote of the illegal alien, the vote of convicted felons and the vote of those who reside in other states but should be allowed to vote again by absentee. They also want the votes of our servicemen and women held to the strictest letter of the law because they don't usually vote the way the Dems prefer. If you ask that a voter be required to show proof of residence and citizenship, then you are a Nazi, a racist and a threat to democracy. These people make me more frustrated than a stutterer in a spelling bee.
