I haven’t heard anything yet on Zarqawi -- but everyday one waits for that news. He’s bound to slip up, unless of course, he slips out -- of the country where he can find many friends I’m sure.

And don’t forget about this guy:

Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, LTG (Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) Vice-Chairman / Northern Region Commander / Inner Circle/ Deputy Secretary General, Ba’th Party Regional Command / Deputy Commander, Armed Forces) (Chairman, National Security Council)

al-Duri would be very helpful to Zarqawi -- either controlling him or working with him. We caught his wife & daughter:

...The U.S. is offering a reward of up to 10 million dollars for the capture of Duri himself. Duri, former VP of Iraq's Revolution Command Council is believed to have more than one wife. After ..Saddam Hussein, he is the senior Iraqi leader still at large & figures in sixth position on a coalition list of most-wanted Iraqis... Duri, now 61, was the prime mover behind the ousted regime's adoption of Islamist rhetoric through the 1990s & stands accused by the coalition of playing a leading role in the persistent attacks on its troops.

There is little mention of al-Duri lately, except for an occasional report that he has been captured. But I’ll bet we’re on his trail -- and I’m just waiting for the good news regarding his fate as well as that of his minion, Zarqawi.

According to what I can find, the US has arrested a senior AlQueda member in Iraq..who is affiliated with Zarqawi's group. Not Zarqawi who remains at large. This was in Mosul...and it says he was arrested last "month" which then led to more arrests of other members of that group.

The reports of Zarqawi being arrested are mostly from arab and asian media and are from a couple of days ago and it appears could possibly be misreporting of the arrest of a "senior" member of his group. Wouldn't be the first time they got things wrong.

It could also be a media ploy by AlQueda. They are quite good at this and use arab media contacts, etc..for this. That is, they say we captured him...only to see a bomb go off the next day with him claiming repsonsiblity. It just makes him more of a hero in the arab world.

When/if caught there would be high security followed by verification and interrogation. Interrogation to get as much information ASAP so as to close in on others before they have a chance to react. I think it would be awhile before the news was generally put out unless some CNN reporter were on hand.

I agree with M Strong. We likely won't hear an official word until all leads to other captures are exhausted.

It seems to me there HAS been an uptick in the amount of high profile arrests recently.

I'm still hopeful the original report is true. It seems less likely as the days go by with no confirmation, but hey, here's to hoping!

According to Fox News, they have definitely captured an aide to
al-Zarqawi. That would mean they are very close to capturing
"the big fish", if they have not done so already. This aide was
apparently close enough to al-Zarqawi to provide the US with
a lot of information about his whereabouts as well as that of his
followers.

U.S. occupation forces announced the arrest of a key leader in al-Zarqawi’s network in Iraq.

The military said in a statement on Saturday that Abdul Aziz Sa'dun Ahmed Hamduni, also known as Abu Ahmed, was arrested on December 22.

The statement also said that Abu Ahmed was coordinating attacks in the northern city of Mosul, adding that he served as the deputy of the top leader in the city, identified as Abu Talha.
