3 Press Conferences related to PROTESTORS & ANTI-PROTESTORS planned for 1/20/04 Inaugural --LINK at end of post.
Following are comments on two of the Conferences that I watched:
Press Briefing: Code Pink/UFP&J/RedefeatBush, etc - 12/21/04, Washington, DC
(55 min): Their plans for antiwar protests/"theater"/disruptions at Pres. Bush’s inauguration.
-and-
Press Briefing: FREE REPUBLIC /DC Chapter - 12/21/04 (1 hr.): Their plans to protest the protestors, protect the Navy Memorial, and provide safety for those who want to celebrate the inaugural.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only caught the end of the press conf. by Code Pink/RedefeatBush, etc. on C-Span tonight, and it was difficult to watch even that -- these people hate the President, say the election was rigged somehow, want him out, want to stop the inaugural if they can -- it is almost unbelievable to listen to them. They say they want Bush kept inside his “little, tiny red circle” at the inauguration, which little red spot is to be surrounded by “the blue,” by them -- that they are the "real voice of the American people" -- -- The room was packed with reporters, but none of them really put any of the anarchists on the spot with their questions, except for one question, as to where else in the world these groups are involved - and one guy did admit that they are involved in Haiti against “the coup” that has occurred -- that no one is reporting “the truth” that it was “a coup,” and in the Phillipines to protest against the leadership there.... There was one man, Lytel, used to work with Clinton, who directly baited the press telling them they didn’t matter anymore because these groups have worldwide contact thru the internet now -- and that they will have their own videographers filming everything, and that on inaugural night they will put all their videos out on the web and get their own news out... He was very sarcastic.
Again, this is tough viewing, but it is a good chance to see and hear directly from some of the folks representing these anarchist organizations that we’ve been talking about.
After the above press conference my spirits were lifted by a press conference held by Free Republic, DC. and their plans to counter-protest the protestors --They had Larry Bailey, and an Iraqi who is grateful for the war, and Judicial Watch, and others... they have been having trouble getting permits (seems that ANSWER filed for some way ahead of time...) and at this point, they only know they will get the Navy Memorial, which was one of three areas they requested. The protestors have in the past torn the flags down & put up anarchist banners and caused other damage, and Free Republic wants to make sure this time that the Memorial is protected. They also want to provide a safe place for conservatives and others who want to celebrate the inauguration. They spoke directly to the issue of WHO these people are, mentioning Medea Benjamin, Code Pink, and etc., and that ANSWER backs the terrorists in Iraq against our soldiers and against the Iraqis. They support the people cutting heads off and blowing everything up. A difference between this press conference and the one above is that the room was almost empty of reporters-- I don’t think there were more than 3-4 there and just rows and rows of empty chairs.... I can only deduce from this that the plans of anarchists are more interesting news than the plans of patriots. Rather disgusting, as this was a GREAT PANEL that carried a very hopeful and courageous message -- they are not going to let these people take over the inauguration. (They also referred to some material taken off the ANSWER website (below) that indicates disruptive violence is planned.)
Here are the three press conferences (I missed the one ANSWER held, but will be watching it):
(1) Code Pink, Global Exchange, UFP&J, etc.:
Counter Inaugural Protests Press Conference:
Speakers David Lytel of RedefeatBush.com, Brian Anders of the Washington Peace Center, Gael Murphy of Code Pink, Global Exchange, United for Peace and Justice, Basav Sen of Mobilization for Global Justice, and other protest organizers hold a counter-inaugural protests press conference. (12/21/2004: Washington, DC: 55 min. )
(2) Int’l ANSWER:
Inauguration Ceremony Protestor Coalition Briefing:
Groups represented through the organization International ANSWER hold a briefing at the National Press Club to speak about their plans to have an antiwar protest at Pres. Bush's inauguration next month and the difficulties they say they are having in dealing with the inauguration organizers. (12/17/2004: Washington, DC: 1 hr. 5 min.)
(3) FREE REPUBLIC, Larry Bailey, etc:
Inaugural Parade Demonstration Permit for Conservatives:
Speakers Captain Larry Bailey USN (Ret.) of the DC Chapter of Free Republic and founder of Vietnam Veterans for Truth, Nofel Al-jazairi, a leader in the Iraqi-American community, and others hold a conference on the "Inaugural Parade Demonstration Permit for Conservatives." (12/21/2004: Washington, DC: 1 hr.)
All three of the above can be watched at: ** c-span.org **
I haven’t looked at this yet, but here’s Int’l ANSWER’s website containing their plans to protest & disrupt the inaugural:

FREE REPUBLIC:
ANNOUNCEMENT: D.C. CHAPTER TO HOLD PRO-BUSH DEMONSTRATIONS ALONG INAUGURAL PARADE 1/20/05
The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all conservatives who share our jubilation with the re-election of President Bush and Vice President Cheney to join us in Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20, 2005, for a very special demonstration.
In order to help prevent a repeat of the leftist-led assaults and disruptions during the 2001 Inaugural parade, the D.C. Chapter applied for a demonstration permit with the U.S. Park Police last January for three key locations along the Inaugural Parade route on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Those locations are: The Navy Memorial, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, where in 2001 leftists climbed the masts and tore down flags and pennants, replacing them with "anarchist" flags; Freedom Plaza, between 13th and 14th Streets, NW; and Pershing Park, between 14th and 15th Streets, NW.
Our goal is to give pro-Bush-Cheney people the opportunity to enjoy the parade and share fellowship with like-minded conservatives while holding demonstrations in support of the President and his conservative policies including pro-life, pro-2A, pro-military and pro-war-on-terrorists.
The D.C. Chapter is reaching out to other conservative groups, inviting them to join us in common cause that day. We recognize that not everyone agrees with every one of the President's policies, however we are asking those who stand with us to set aside those criticisms just for one day. There will be plenty of criticism from the left that day. Our job is to represent the 61 million Americans who voted in record numbers to give the President a mandate for his agenda.
Our plan is to have a 'salute to veterans' gathering at the Navy Memorial. Issue-oriented demonstrators will gather at Freedom Plaza. Pershing Park will be used as the D.C. Chapter's base of operations.
There will be plenty of law enforcement officers all along the parade route. Security checkpoints will be established that all who wish to stand along the parade will have to pass through. The leftists will do their best to ruin the President's day, but by conservatives coming out in large numbers at our permitted demonstration areas we can deny them ground from which to operate from. Several leftist groups have their own permit applications in so they should not be able to encroach on ours.
The D.C. Chapter's pro-Bush demonstration zones are set to be islands of peace from the angry leftists. We will not condone any provocations or violence. Please bring American and service flags, along with signs supporting President Bush and our conservative agenda.
The parade will run from about 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. However, people will be gathering along the parade route from early morning on through the afternoon.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
All persons and groups participating in our permitted demonstration areas must agree to abide by our rules for civilized demonstrations.

(excerpts)
As inaugural planners organize a $40 million pageant for President Bush this month, Ashwini Hardikar is preparing for another kind of spectacle. The Univ. of Michigan junior is one of thousands coming to Bush's second inauguration to show not their support for the president but their rage. ....
The Jan. 20th inauguration .... will be the scene of small & large demonstrations. Organizers from dozens of local & national groups are planning marches, rallies & acts of civil disobedience on Inauguration Day & the days before & after. Activists say ... they vow to create one of the biggest displays of opposition to the administration's foreign & domestic policies since the mass demonstrations at the summer's Republican National Convention in NY.
The battle between protesters & authorities has already begun. One group, International ANSWER, is preparing to sue the National Park Service over access to the Pennsylvania Avenue NW inaugural route. Demonstrators also are complaining about Secret Service restrictions on parade-route signs & displays, including a ban on puppets, papier-mache objects, coffins..... "We think it's an illegal & unconstitutional overstepping by the Secret Service, working on behalf of the Bush administration, to prevent anti-Bush banners & signs from being visible along the parade route," said Brian Becker, national coordinator for ANSWER, ....
......
ANSWER's rally is one of several protests set for Inauguration Day, including a "die-in" & other actions still in the works in which people are preparing to risk arrest. "The energy level is so high that we can't anticipate less than a massive turnout," said Morrigan Phillips, 24, a Washington activist involved with the D.C. Cluster Spokescouncil, ...
The Washington chapter of the group Free Republic plans to represent the other side, rallying on and near Pennsylvania Avenue to support the president and provide a haven from demonstrators, its co-leader, Kristinn Taylor, said.
...... protesters said their dissent has been inflamed by what they called an unjustified war in Iraq. .... Some protesters said they are coming to Washington to oppose what they consider U.S. efforts to overthrow democratically elected leaders in Haiti, Venezuela & elsewhere. Some are coming because of the administration's support of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank & Gaza Strip. Others say their main reason for attending is opposition to the USA Patriot Act or alleged Election Day fraud.
David Lytel, founder of the Committee to ReDefeat the President, said the group is organizing a rally at the Jefferson Memorial & is planning other events focused on raising questions about voter irregularities & the 2004 election. The D.C. Anti-War Network is sponsoring two actions -- a rally & march from Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights and a "die-in" to symbolize those who have died in Iraq or because of Bush policies. The .... street-theater action will take place near the parade route, organizers said. "We're not trying to cause destruction or anything like that," said District resident Peter Perry, 35, an organizer. ...
A group called Anarchist Resistance said it is planning a "festive and rowdy march." An organizer who identified himself as Rae Valentine, 24, described plans this way: "Our idea is to disrupt and put a black eye on Bush's coronation." The group's Web site says it is organizing under five "points of unity," one of which supports a "confrontational attitude." .... At least 10,000 protesters are expected to stand along the parade route & turn their backs as Bush goes by,... "It's something that's universally understood as being a symbolic statement of defiance," Heiko said. ...
Becker said the Partnership for Civil Justice & the National Lawyers Guild are preparing to take legal action on behalf of ANSWER this week against the Park Service, after the group received a permit that he said prevents protesters from gathering in large numbers. .... |

Thanks for the info.. It is disgusting how these idiots carry on... This is America and they have the freedom to protest. What they shouldn't be allowed to do is disturb anything, like taking down flags and replacing them with "anarchist" flag.
The anarchists don't care if they get arrested. They pride themselves on it. In NYC during the convention.. After they were arrested, they sued the city and all made out with about $1000 each... It's also profitable to get arrested these days! _________________ "From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." -- Thomas Jefferson

to the 2005 Presidential Inauguration

Anarchist Resistance Call to Action
All out for an anarchist mobilization against centralized power...at the 2005 Presidential Inauguration: Washington, DC - January 15-20th. As George W. Bush is coronated on January 20th, the question is not if there will be protests, but what shape these protests will take. Thousands are organizing to oppose Bush's Inauguration. As the liberal and authoritarian groups negotiate permits with the powers that be, it's time to put forward an alternate vision of protest; one of resistance to, not cooperation with the authorities.

We Are Resisting
For those of us who envision a world without rulers, a world without borders and a world with freedom for all, not just those within a particular nation, class, race, gender or religion - the time to act is now - with all out resistance to capitalism and centralized power.
