They Won Best Picture Awards, Yes,
But Are Fahrenheit 9/11 & Passion of the Christ
REALLY the People's Choice?
Quote: | As reported by GoldDerby.com Friday night, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Passion of the Christ won Best Picture prizes at the People's Choice Awards, but are they really the preferred winners of most people in America? CBS ditched Gallup Poll judging for cheap Internet voting that can be manipulated easily by zealous fans. "Tinseltown has been buzzing about organized campaigns on behalf of Moore's Bush-bashing Fahrenheit 9/11, reports The New York Post.
Although "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Passion of the Christ" were shut out of next Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, their Oscar campaigns for Best Picture got a last-minute boost from victories tonight at the People's Choice Awards, as predicted by GoldDerby.com.
"Fahrenheit" triumphed as Favorite Movie of 2004, while "Passion's" hopes were resurrected with a victory as Favorite Movie Drama -- 2 of the People's Choices 5 Best Picture races. Both films did not face off against each other in any race but could meet up in the top Oscar matchup when nominations are announced on Jan. 25. Oscar ballots are due next Saturday, Jan. 15, so there's time for "Fahrenheit's" and "Passion's" victories at the People's Choice kudos to have an impact on the home-stretch of academy voting.
But controversy will certainly erupt after the victories of both films when critics ask: Do the People's Choice Awards REALLY reflect the views of the American public? Arguably, they did so in the past when winners were determined by a Gallup Poll survey, but voting was switched this year to less expensive -- and less scientific -- Internet balloting that's easily manipulated by the zealous political and religious supporters. "Tinseltown has been buzzing about organized campaigns on behalf of Moore's Bush-bashing 'Fahrenheit 9/11,'" reports today's New York Post and gossipmeisters say the same is true about Mel Gibson's disciples crusading fervently for "Passion of the Christ." |

Quote: | NEW YORK CITY (Jan. 7, 2005, GoldDerby.com) -- George W. Bush may have been the American people's choice for President in 2004, but the People's Choice Award for the Favorite Film of 2004 will go to his political nemesis this Sunday night, GoldDerby.com has learned.
At the ceremony to be telecast Jan. 9, at 9 p.m. (EST) on CBS, director/writer Michael Moore will accept the prize bestowed upon "Fahrenheit 9/11" by TV "President" Martin Sheen, star of "The West
Wing."
GoldDerby has learned that Moore was tipped off ahead of time that his film beat other nominees "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "The Incredibles," "Shrek 2" and "Spiderman 2." Apparently, that's why Moore mysteriously chose to ditch his earlier plan to attend this Sunday's gala dinner of the New York Film Critics Circle, which had planned to give him their award for Best Documentary...
Even though People's Choice Award winners usually pretend to be surprised when their names are announced as champs, the fact that CBS really tips them off early has always been a poorly kept ecret in the media world and, strangely, has never become controversial...
This year the tip-off at the People's Choice Awards could become scandalous because it enables CBS and Michael Moore to stage a ratings-friendly stunt in primetime TV...
Moore can benefit greatly from such a flashy TV stunt likely to be played often on TV newscasts. Many ballots are still out among Academy Award voters deciding nominees, which will be announced on January 25. Moore made the controversial decision not to enter "Fahrenheit 9/11" in the race for Best Documentary, instead pressing hard for a shot at Best Picture. No documentary has ever been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and none before "Fahrenheit" had made the lineup for Favorite Film at the People's Choice Awards. |
and then (yawn) this:

Quote: | NEW YORK In the transcript of an interview with the Boston Globe's Ty Burr, published this weekend on the newspaper's Web site, actor/activist Sean Penn reflected on the criticism he received in the media around his two visits to Iraq.
"I wrote a letter to the Washington Post a couple of years ago, before we went into the war," Penn said. "The very things I was criticized for saying then are now being reported by Bill O'Reilly. I was criticized for suggesting the possibility there were no weapons of mass destruction.
"But the bigger issue is that it's an absolutely stupid notion that you should take the title of someone's profession and attach it to what they should not do. It has nothing to do with citizenry. I think they should shove it with their hypocritical Ronald Reagan standard right up their ass." |
Yeah, well, tell that to Steve Gardner. Hey Sean, bend over! |

Michael Moore gave a disgusting speech where he said we all love America and further cared for the soldiers in Iraq. He has for the last several years given the enemy propaganda to fuel the fire burning which causes more and more deaths of our finest. He is a disgusting undisciplined sloth taking advantage of the ignorant stupid leftist group-think to make a buck at the expense of our finest shedding blood. If you care at all about this Benedict Arnold, American blood is on your hands and don't bother washing it off. This is the blood that for your entire life will taint your hands.
And regarding Sean Penn, well he is about as dumb as they come and warrants no comment. To the GenrXr's of the world he will always be the surfing idiot Spakoli from 'Fast Time at Ridgemont High'. Read his writings and you will see how damn moronic he is.
Moore is the enemy, whereas Penn is just a friggin moronic accomplice with no clue. _________________ "An activist is the person who cleans up the water, not the one claiming its dirty."

This is about the left salvaging some of it's pride after the drubbing they took in the last elections, not only did they lose the presidency but suffered loses in the Senate and House as well. As a result, they needed something to show as a victory. It is fitting that their "hero" won in a poll that allowed an individual to vote several times, maintaining that great tradition of the Democratic Party. _________________ John Kerry.
