Here it is in the NYT...

Hi, Why Did You Drop My Paper?

Journalists at The Philadelphia Inquirer began the new year in proper fashion, by working the phones. But some senior editors were not calling sources. They were calling readers.

On Thursday, a handful of top editors, including the executive editor, Amanda Bennett, began making personal phone calls to former subscribers, many of whom dropped the paper this year after The Inquirer ran a series of editorials favoring John F. Kerry for president.

"If the people I call say, 'Yes, I was mad at your editorial,' then the next thing I say is, 'Would you like to come in and talk about it?' " Ms. Bennett said.

The Inquirer's election coverage included a daily editorial page series called "21 Reasons to Elect Kerry" that began on Oct. 10 and ran to Election Day, addressing different aspects of Mr. Kerry's proposed policies. That feature was paired each day with an op-ed piece highlighting President Bush's policies and record on the same issue.

"I am sure we lost subscribers in the fall, given the intensity of emotions of this election and given the scrutiny of the media," said Chris Satullo, the editorial page editor. "We did our job rather forcefully in supporting Kerry, and that only raised the stakes."

Last week, the paper's circulation department came up with a list of a couple of hundred people who had canceled during the election cycle and had not been contacted. The list was divided among editors and editorial board members - each with 15 or 20 names - and they began calling.

It is too early in the dialing process to present any results or plans for future discourse, Mr. Satullo said. But he said that he relished the dialogue with readers, adding that he tried to steer them away from using the terms "bias" and "objectivity."

"Those terms have been drained of any stable meaning," he said.

Well, well, well, could it be because "journalistic standards" has become a joke? Or is it that they have decided not to even make an attempt at objectivity.

Let's see, you become an outright schill for a candidate and then are shocked that those who support a different candidate decide not to reward you with their money. That's called a free market babe, get used to it.

Could it be because they are communists which wish the destruction of America? Nah they are journilists so they love the America they always deride. Fact is, Zinn and Chomsky are these peoples prophets and as such they all hate America and wish its destruction. We have very few people in journalism who actually care for our country and worse most actively try to destroy this country. It is time America shows the world our strength and put an end to the communist utopian idea.

I delivered that paper as a kid. Back then there was also the Evening Bulletin in town and there was some sort of balance. These days there are open leftists like Jane Eisner running the paper, with hacks like Trudy Rubin and others as writers. One reads a front page story that ought to be on the Editorial page. Even the Sports writers have a PC slant (Rush was Correct.) Tony Auth the "cartoonist" is neither witty nor accurate. He is also a leftist malcontent. They advocate higher taxes and higher Minimum wages as businesses and people flee the city. Funny thing is, these people consider themselves unbiased and still can't figure out why the circulation is shrinking. When the telemarketing people call soliciting subscriptions, I tell them what I think of that propoganda rag. Seems like the paper's management are the only people around who don't get it. Just like the rest of the Liberal MSM. They are a dispenser of hard Liberal Socialist bilge and negativity and people don't want to read that stuff.

Actually they think they are the saviors of America. Capitalism and free markets are harmful to the populace and must be restricted, contained and milked of funds to support their socialist aims.

I see you are familiar with the rag. I will read it if it's left laying around, but will not pay for it. Usually I scan over it and throw it away in disgust.

After at least twenty years as a subscriber, I had to drop the Des Moines Ragister. Pro Skerry and anti Iraq war was too much. Now Newsweak is pissin' me off too often. Some year-end article about Pat Tillman and then mentioned how the Iraq war is a mistake. The author should watch out overhead. I can picture Tillman reaching down and pulling his head off.

Is there a decent weekly mag I can read without wanting to choke someone afterwards? Talk radio's all I've got. Life's too short.
