Is this what Hillary and her posse intend for America?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/01/30/wgerm30.xml
Quote: | Under Germany's welfare reforms, any woman under 55 who has been out of work for more than a year can be forced to take an available job – including in the sex industry – or lose her unemployment benefit. Last month German unemployment rose for the 11th consecutive month to 4.5 million, taking the number out of work to its highest since reunification in 1990. |
The unemployment rate didn't appear correct so I went to http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/gm.html and discovered a disturbing trend I was already aware of, but had no idea how severe it was.
Quote: | Population:
82,424,609 (July 2004 est.)
Population growth rate: 0.02% (2004 est.)
Birth rate: 8.45 births/1,000 population (2004 est.)
Death rate: 10.44 deaths/1,000 population (2004 est.)
Net migration rate: 2.18 migrant(s)/1,000 population (2004 est.)
Unemployment rate: 10.5% (2003 est.) |
According to these figures unemployment in 2003 was 8.65 million. Assuming the article is correct in that unemployment is at its highest level since 1990 the figure must be higher.
The really disturbing numbers though are the birth, death and migration rates. According to these numbers Germany suffers a net loss in their indigenous population of 164,849 people a year. While the growth rate in population did grow at .02% this is due to the migration of 179966 immigrants last year.
Who are the immigrants? My guess would be the majority of the immigrants are of Muslim origin.
The conclusion of my analysis of these numbers is Germanys indigenous population is dying off and being replaced by an Islamic one.
Edit: Unemployment number was correct. I wasn't factoring in those too young to work. _________________ "An activist is the person who cleans up the water, not the one claiming its dirty."

You are right - they have the same problem with Muslims (mostly Turks) as we do with Mexicans - they swarm into Germany and suck up a lot of jobs and do not pay the taxes the Germans do.
Before I retired, I worked with a large international automotive parts supplier and spent considerable time in country and their system is really flawed
I also spent considerable time in Mexico and given the druthers, I will take a Mexican worker anytime. They put out production 5 - 1 over Europeans _________________ "Si vis pacem, para bellum" |

My friend in Germany is not going to be happy about this, I suspect. He has a young friend who might find herself in this position one of these days.
Personally, I think it's sick. Most women find the idea of prostitution distasteful. By making it just like any other profession, Germany is discriminating against its female citizens by forcing them to do things they believe to be immoral or risk losing their unemployment benefits.
I'm so happy I live in a country where such activity is still illegal, and where women aren't forced into that kind of life just to keep their unemployment benefits.

The newspapers in Nevada have help wanted sections for legal brothels. But, I don't think they go through the State Employment agency. _________________ I was going to become an anarchist, but they had too many rules. |

Having passed by brothels in Germany and casually observed the quality of the wares displayed, I can see why they may want to widen their search for employees. Braids are cute unless you see them coming from a woman's armpit.

I was wrong about my young friend. He found the article amusing and thought it was inaccurate, and said that the moment one tried to sue against it, the law would be overturned.
Out of respect for his privacy (and because he got upset the last time I quoted verbatim from him on this forum), I won't use his exact words, but that was the gist of his take on the situation.
I challenged him to find me a link that said this story is wrong. And for those of you men who find this funny....think what you would feel like if it were some women close to you who found herself in this position (pretend you're German)...and ask yourself how many women would go into prostitution rather than risk losing what little money they have. They've got no reason not to, since it's legal over there.

Wishing to learn of a possible "NOW" reaction to this development, a quick trip to their website yielded nothing overtly addressing the issue. It did, however, give me an opportunity to review their latest agenda...
Quote: | Since our founding in 1966, the National Organization for Women has been at the forefront of the movement to bring women into equal partnership with men in all aspects of society. Despite the barriers, literal and figurative, we are committed to the fight for equal rights and justice for all, and will resist every effort by the Bush Administration to roll back our rights.
NOW commits to continue our efforts to:
- Fight right wing judicial appointments — The resignation of Chief Justice Rehnquist is imminent due to health reasons. George W. Bush is poised to nominate an anti-abortion, anti-civil rights judge to the Supreme Court in the next few months, perhaps more than one.
- Stop Social Security privatization — This is one of the Bush administration's top issues for the second term. The "reform" they suggest will devastate this critical program, impacting the present and future financial retirement of women.
- Protest further tax cuts - The Bush tax cuts of 2002 benefited the rich, eradicated the surplus and created an enormous debt which will be passed down to our children. Continuation of these cuts will result in the evisceration of vital programs for women and girls such as Head Start, housing support, nutrition programs for children and much more.
- Defeat anti-women's rights legislation — In his second term, and with the support of his cronies in Congress, Bush is sure to continue and even escalate his attempts to restrict a woman's right to abortion and birth control, while rolling back our guarantees of job equity and educational opportunities.
- Speak out against the war in Iraq — This national tragedy has given rise to the loss of lives, not only of the women and men in the U.S. military, but of innocent Iraqis and foreign relief workers. It is time to support our troops by bringing them home. The national treasury is being ransacked by an approximate $137 million per day being spent in this quagmire.
- Prevent a repeat of the 2004 elections — "Count every vote" was not the name of the game on Election Day. We must restore faith in our electoral system but ensuring that future elections will be fair, accessible and accountable.
- Promote equal marriage — The time has come in our country for the recognition of same-sex marriage. We must reject discrimination against lesbian and gay couples and families.
The next four years will be a challenge for all who believe in equality and justice. But we will not be shut down. We will be heard, and we will prevail.

A quick double-check of the address window assured me that I had not inadvertently traveled to the DNC or "A.N.S.W.E.R." website. |

The other country I worked besides Mexico was Germany (Ruhr Valley) and when I read the brothel thing I was a bit skeptical. I do not believe that prostitution is legal nor did I see any signs of it,. Even in Frankfort AM where things are a bit spicy, there were no signs of it to me. Never spent much time in Berlin so I cannot speak for that.
But then again my last extended stay in Germany was 1993 and much could happen in nearly a dozen years _________________ "Si vis pacem, para bellum" |

According to the article, "Prostitution was legalised in Germany in 2002 because the government believed that this would help to combat trafficking in women and cut links to organised crime."
Apparently the legal brothels in Germany have to pay unemployment taxes and medical care for their employees. In Nevada, the brothel workers are considered independent contractors so no unemployment tax is involved. _________________ I was going to become an anarchist, but they had too many rules. |
