Not much made of this story – I’m glad this article at least covered it – (yet one wouldn’t know from the title):
Quote: | “Iraqi insurgents resume deadly attacks,” Mark Willacy, 2/4/05 (Australian Broadcasting Corp)
(excerpt)
Mark Willacy, we've heard reports about the high voter turnout, but now there are reports of how some voters have taken on the insurgents in order to vote, you know, the people are fighting back.
MARK WILLACY: That's right, Tony. The Iraqi police have investigated a case in the village of al-Mudhariya, which is just south of Baghdad. The villagers there say that before the election insurgents came and warned them that if they voted in last weekend's election, they would pay. Now the people of this mixed village of Sunni and Shia Muslims, they ignored the threat and they did turn out to vote.
We understand that last night the insurgents came back to punish the people of al-Mudhariya, but instead of metering out that punishment the villagers fought back and they killed five of the insurgents and wounded eight. They then burnt the insurgents' car. So the people of that village have certainly had enough of the insurgents.
TONY EASTLEY: Do you think that is a one off, Mark, or is it a sign perhaps that some Iraqis are no longer sympathetic to the insurgents' cause, or at least no longer willing to turn a blind eye?
MARK WILLACY: It would appear that people are getting sick of the insurgency. I understand, though, that this is the first report of Iraqis confronting insurgents and actually fighting back in such a way. |

This is a great story.! Michelle Malkin wrote about it also, at the end of the article she writes Chris matthews, Ron Regan, & Janeane Garofalo would sneer that the whole thing was staged.
That seems to be the new mantra comming from the wacko's that any good news comming out of Iraq is staged..!!!!!

Leeman, thanks for reminding me! I forgot all about that little back stabbing, limp wristed, dweasel! Thinking about him makes me wish I went to grade school with him, so I could nail him on a regular basis while playing the not kinder or genteler sport of dodge-ball. _________________ MOPAR-BUYER |

From Fox News, Brit Hume's Grapevine:
Quote: | Iraqi police are investigating an election incident at a small Iraqi village south of Baghdad. The villagers, a mix of Shia and Sunni Muslim turned out in large numbers to vote in Sunday’s election, even though insurgents threatened voters with violence.
The Australian Broadcasting Company reports that when the insurgents returned to make good on their threats, they got a nasty surprise. The residents fought back, killing five insurgents and wounding eight, then burning the insurgents’ car. Australian broadcast reporter Mark Willesy concludes, "The people of that village have certainly had enough of the insurgents." |

In a related note, I caught the tail-end of a story on, I think, Fox cable that referenced the capture of 3 or so insurgents allegedly on the way to attack the family of Iraqi Police hero Abdelamir Najem Kazem. However, I can't find any other reference to this story and would appreciate a link should anyone find it. |

Haven't seen anything on Kazem yet.. but here are a couple other hopeful items:
2/7/05 – Mosul – Iraqi citizens taking back their city
MOSUL, Iraq -- Iraqi citizens informed Multi-National Forces from 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team,) in three separate instances of potential attacks in northern Iraq.
A citizen approached Soldiers from 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, who were on patrol in southeastern Mosul, Feb. 5 and informed them of a location of a roadside bomb. The Explosive Ordinance Disposal team defused the bomb. No Iraqi citizen or Multi-National Forces injuries were reported during the operation.
An Iraqi child informed Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, who were on patrol south of Mosul Feb. 6, of a mine and other explosives placed along a roadway. EOD defused the explosives. No Iraqi citizen or Multi-National Forces injuries were reported.
Another Iraqi citizen’s information led to the capture of a suspected terrorist following a mortar attack on Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment Feb. 6. The information given by the citizen helped 1-24th Soldiers find the origin of the attack, which led to the detention of two people. Suspects are in custody with no citizen or Multi-National Forces injuries reported.

“Operation Big Dig Takes a Bite Out of the Desert”
LATIFIYAH, Iraq, Feb. 4, 2005 -After several weeks of collecting and destroying weapons caches in the Latifiyah area of north Babil, Task Force 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division, got a tip about a cache in the desert. …. (con’t)
U.S. Army Sgt. Samuel Jones, a Task Force 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment signal systems support specialist, who works as a radio operator with the task force’s attached Estonian platoon, stands near an unearthed cache of Frog-7b rocket warheads during the first day of Operation Big Dig in the Latifiyah desert, Jan. 23, 2005. The surface-to-surface warheads contain 1000 kg of high explosives. At the end of the first four days of the operation, the task force had found nine Frog-7b warheads and 11 Cobra surface-to-surface missiles. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Andy Miller)
