Please help the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) and other concerned groups and citizens to save the 43-foot tall cross that was erected atop Mt. Soledad in San Diego, California 50 years ago to honor our nation’s veterans by signing the petition below! An ACLU backed atheist has waged a 15-year court battle to force the removal of the famous cross. A federal court has ordered San Diego to remove the cross. However, one option remains.

Petition to Designate the Mt. Soledad Cross and
The Mount Soledad Veterans War Memorial a National Memorial


Whereas, federal law authorizes the designation of official national memorials;
Whereas, crosses have been erected on top of Mount Soledad, San Diego, California, in one form or another since 1913;
Whereas, a 43 foot concrete cross was erected in 1954 on top of Mount Soledad in honor and recognition of the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in the Korean War;
Whereas, The War Memorial has now become a tribute to veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States who served our nation in any of its wars;
Whereas, the Mount Soledad Cross and The Mount Soledad Veterans War Memorial represents our collective admiration and respect for veterans from all wars who have honorably served our nation in the Armed Forces;
Whereas, President George W. Bush in a letter dated May 22, 2001 considered the Mount Soledad War Memorial as a “…place to reflect on our past, be inspired by true American patriots, and offer war veterans our heartfelt gratitude for the freedom we all enjoy today.
Whereas, a federal lawsuit by an avowed atheist has resulted in a court order requiring the Mt. Soledad Cross to be removed, and designation of the site as a National Memorial would allow the Cross to remain;
We therefore, urge you to take the necessary steps to designate the Mt. Soledad Cross and the Mt. Soledad Veterans War Memorial a National Memorial.

We need all the help we can get. The judge has ordered the cross be removed within 90 days. Roger Hedgecock has formed a CHAIN GANG of volunteers to chain themselves to the cross to stop the removal but this will only be a temporary solution. We need this petition signed by as many people as possible. Please post a link to the petition on every blog and forum you can. With everyone's help, we can show this atheist the Power of God in all of us.

I lived about a half mile away from that cross when I went to high
school. La Jolla Rancho Rd. I graduated from high school in '59 and
never really went back to that F'en town. That's one place that I would
dearly LOVE to see slide into the ocean and cheer every time another
chunk does go in the drink. Since they put that University (UCSD) up
at La Jolla Junction in the '60s they turned that town into one of the
most overpriced pieces of real estate in the country. All the time that
I lived up there by that cross, it had only one main purpose. It was a
parking place where you took your date after a party or a dance. Of
course, if you were really serious about getting something, you went
to the site of UCSD which was Camp Callan in WWII. They still had the
streets in there but the brush covered it. You could slide your car under
the brush and just hide away. Good place for parties. The cross was
too easy to get caught by the cops when parking up there. But a
couple of hundred yards away on the north side of the TV antennas
was a concrete pill box complex also from WWII that was party central
for a couple of years before the cops found out about it.

Can't the ACLU and their athiest supporters get their own hill top?

It is fun to contemplate what they could possibly display that would inspire others to join their cause.

In any event, the ACLU ought to have better things to do than undermine veterans who protect this nation's freedoms. Furthermore, those who believe the United States is a source of freedom in the world ought to turn their back on the ACLU and tell everyone to ignore the ranting and raving of the politically corrupt ACLU.

Most of that War Memorial was put up in the last 20 years. After those
idiots filed their lawsuit. Up until around 1975, it was just a cross with
a plain paved asphault one way road around it. There was nothing else
up there. When I was a kid the road was gravel. I hunted a LOT of
rabbits up around there and in the canyons.

I've been on the high school on-line e-mail list for the last 10 years and
we regularly hold continuing rants about that town in general and the
cross and the seals in particular. Mainly it's the gutless city council
and village council that are the problem. Then there's the California
Coastal Commission and the 9th US Circuit Court. The list goes on
forever.

I guess that what really torques me off is that I used to sit in the nook
at home with a straight view out of the window of Cass St. in Pacific
Beach. Then all of Mission Bay, Point Loma, NTC and MCRD just to
the left, San Diego Bay, the Mexican Islands, and, hard to the left,
Otay Mesa and Mexico. The idiot that has the house now has a nice
swimming pool (within 2 miles of some of the best swimming and
surfing beachs on the planet) with a 10 foot high, chain link security
fence covered with bougainvillea and shut out one of the most spectacular
views in San Diego.

Sorry, but I liked Southern California before they paved the place.
Now there's absolutely no reason at all for even a short visit to that
crowded and polluted place. Ya think that MCAS Miramar will be turned
into the next San Diego airport? Or maybe MCRD goes to extend the
runways at Lindberg Field?

San Diegans vote to save cross
75% resist ACLU effort to remove historic structure

"After 15 years of adverse court rulings, the citizens of San Diego voted to save the city's historic Mt. Soledad cross.

The conflict arises from an ACLU lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the 29-foot concrete structure, which has been the center of a war memorial on city land since 1954.

According to an unofficial count, 75 percent of voters decided they want to transfer the city owned site to the federal government where it would be designated as a war memorial."

This BBC story was on Drudge yesterday. I do not mean to offend anyone but it is x-rated. It is only meant as an example of what would be acceptable to the ACLU and their atheist supporters. This is considered a "great find". I find it pornographic but I am considered judgemental about such things.
