Friends,
A group of highly decorated former POWs who played an active role in the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth have formed a new organization, the Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation (www.vvlf.org), to develop a national repository of Vietnam-related materials, information and records, and to counter and expose false information about the Vietnam War that appears in the media. Led by Medal of Honor recipient Bud Day, the group includes former POWs Ken Cordier, Paul Galanti, and James Warner. They intend to continue setting the record straight about the honorable service of Americans in Vietnam.
Please see the attached press release for more details.
Best regards,
Scott Swett, Executive Director
Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation

FORMER POWs LAUNCH VIETNAM VETERANS
LEGACY FOUNDATION TO DEFEND THE HONOR OF
AMERICAN TROOPS WHO FOUGHT IN VIETNAM
(Washington, DC) A group of Vietnam Veterans, concerned and frustrated with the lack of public understanding of the Vietnam War and the negative image of those who served there, has embarked on a new mission -- to tell the American people the truth about what really happened in Vietnam.
The new organization will be led by Col. George E. “Bud” Day, a Medal of Honor recipient and former POW who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and is the Air Force’s most highly decorated combat veteran.
Col. Day said, “The false history of Vietnam has been used to demoralize our troops in combat, undermine the public's confidence in U.S. foreign policy and weaken our national security. Radical leftists such as Jane Fonda lied about the war 35 years ago, and are still lying about it today. The goal of the VVLF is to continue the work of countering more than three decades of misinformation and propaganda, and to set the record straight.”
The VVLF Board of Directors also includes Col. Kenneth W. Cordier, Cdr. Paul Galanti, and the Honorable James Warner -- all former POWs -- Mary Jane McManus, wife of former POW Kevin McManus, and Vietnam veterans Robert A. McMahon and Wallace Nunn, who is Chairman of the Medal of Honor Foundation.
The VVLF will serve as a national repository of Vietnam-related materials, information and records, and will make this information available to the public. The organization will create independent films and documentaries, and provide exhibits and visual materials to museums, libraries and other public places. The VVLF will also act as a source of accurate information for journalists, authors and researchers, and will work to counter and expose false information presented about the Vietnam War in the media.
The Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation (www.VietnamLegacy.org) is a 501(c)(3) public service corporation whose mission is to educate and inform the public about the Vietnam War, its events, its history, and the men and women who sacrificed to serve their country in Vietnam.

Sounds very interesting. I'm all for anything to help spread the truth and reveal the many lies and myths.
While they are at it, they might be interested in checking out the efforts of this College Professor;

Wonderful news!!!
A repository for the actual FACTS of the Vietnam War.
It is up to the Vietnam Vets to do this since the so-called intelligensia i.e.-Academia,
Media, and Hollywood moguls WON'T do it !!
For 40 years, starting with Walter Kronkite, the public has been fed so much skewed,
outright propaganda that younger generations have no idea what the
REAL facts are.
I, myself have learned so much in the past year
from the Swiftvets.
Unfit For Command, Stolen Honor, and this forum have educated me,
and made me go searching for more truth.
I hope VVAR is a smashing success!!! _________________ “I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” (Thomas Paine, 1776) |

Well it’s a happy day to see this new Foundation! I wish them much success. Great name, too, “Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation”…
Quote: | The organization will create independent films and documentaries, and provide exhibits and visual materials to museums, libraries and other public places. The VVLF will also act as a source of accurate information for journalists, authors and researchers, and will work to counter and expose false information presented about the Vietnam War in the media. |
Films and documentaries and exhibits, yes! Such a huge task in getting the truth out – especially in getting that truth into the history books and into the classroom. Col. Day: “The false history of Vietnam has been used to demoralize our troops in combat, undermine the public's confidence in U.S. foreign policy and weaken our national security.” Yes, the propaganda of Kerry, the VVAW, Kennedy and their ilk -- I applaud and support this effort with thanks and gratitude to the POWs and Scott and others who have worked to form this new Foundation. This is just a wonderful undertaking – and it gives me hope, and for that, also, I am thankful.
(also, thanks Lew for the link to “Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform” -- “V.V.A.R.: Leading the student revolt on campus against ….political correctness, multiculturalism, ….. lying about Vietnam, and other instruments of academic oppression.” – now I like the sound of that!)

Just came in email from Military.com;
Vietnam Veterans Create New Organization
The Fleet Reserve Association reports that a group of Vietnam veterans, concerned and frustrated with the lack of public understanding of the Vietnam War and the negative image of those who served there, has embarked on a new mission--to tell the American people the truth about what really happened in Vietnam. The new Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation will be led by Col. George E. "Bud" Day, a Medal of Honor recipient and former prisoner of war (POW) who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and is the Air Force's most highly decorated combat veteran. VVLF Newsletter for September 13, 2005
Welcome to the first issue of our Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation newsletter.
First of all, the leadership of the VVLF would like to thank you for supporting our organization. We have received donations of nearly $50,000 in response to Carlton Sherwood's recent letter describing the lawsuits against him, and strong, aggressive efforts to defend against these lawsuits have commenced. There's still a long way to go before Carlton can put his tormentors on the witness stand, and he will need your help to get there.
The ghosts of the Vietnam antiwar movement continue to loom around us. The 1971 documentary of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War's Winter Soldier war crimes tribunal has just been nationally released, with great fanfare from the New York Times and other sympathetic media outlets including the Socialist Worker Online. The film's distributors hope that the VVAW's unsupported and unlikely tales of American war crimes will undermine public support for the war in Iraq. Jane Fonda has dropped her previous plans for a national bus tour in deference to "peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan, but will continue to make public appearances to denounce America's efforts. Cindy Sheehan herself is working closely with groups such as Code Pink, United for Peace & Justice, and Veterans For Peace -- three of the organizations that held a mock "war crimes" trial against the U.S. in Istanbul this June, and then issued a declaration supporting the terrorist insurgency in Iraq. Sheehan sees the U.S. government as a morally repugnant system, believes that America is not worth dying for, and refers to the insurgents as freedom fighters. She also smears the efforts of American troops in Iraq as blatant genocide.
It's the same pack of lies the radicals told during Vietnam: American troops were war criminals, and our enemies were heroic freedom fighters.
We think the best defense against propaganda is the truth. To that end, we are building educational programs that present America's war in Vietnam honestly, so that kids growing up in America won't have to be taught history that has been twisted to serve a radical agenda.
We have added some interesting new material to our web site at VietnamLegacy.org. Recently we asked Professor Robert Turner of the University of Virginia Law School to write a scholarly analysis of the claims about Vietnam that Jane Fonda made in her recent book, My Life So Far. The result, The Fonda Fallacies: Why Jane Fonda Was Wrong, and Why It Matters Today, is must reading for anyone interested in the truth behind Fonda's radical spin. We've also started a series of short articles on actions of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War during the Vietnam era. The first two installments are A Thumbnail Sketch of the VVAW and Vietnam Veterans Against the War: Al Hubbard.
We apologize to those of you who donated recently and haven't yet received the new director's edition of Stolen Honor. Final production of the revised film is taking longer than we expected due to a few logistical issues. We expect to have it ready to distribute soon. The new version includes an exclusive interview with Steve Pitkin, the former member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War who filed a legal affidavit last fall stating that VVAW leaders, including John Kerry, pressured him to make up stories about American atrocities at the Winter Soldier Investigation. It also describes the Kerry campaign's effort to suppress distribution and theater showings of the original version of Stolen Honor.
The VVLF extends its sympathy and best wishes to those who have felt the impact of Hurricane Katrina. Useful information for veterans in the affected areas can be found at the web site of the Veterans Benefits Administration. |
