Washington (VNA) - The Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) has sent to the Washington-based Viet Nam Embassy a letter congratulating the Vietnamese people on the 30th anniversary of the end of the US war in Viet Nam.

The letter reads:

"As we approach the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the US war in Viet Nam, we in Viet Nam Veterans Against the War wish to send greetings and best wishes to the people of Viet Nam. We celebrate with you the success of your struggle for liberation from foreign domination.

On April 30, 1975, the effort on the part of successive US government to deny Viet Nam national independence and reunification came to an end. Thirty years later, we who served in the US armed forces during that war remember all the fallen on all sides, the millions of Vietnamese, the tens of thousands of Americans and soldiers from other countries, all of whom were victims of an illegal and immoral war.

Seems I remember there being a cease-fire signed and the “victorious” North violated that cease-fire to overrun and oppress the South. Is that what VVAW calls a moral and legal event?

It is also the name of a country of 82 million human beings -- who live under one of the most repressive dictatorships on Earth. Vietnam has sentenced nine members of a banned branch of Christianity to 18 to 30 months in prison for their alleged actions against the state. The nine members of the Montegnard ethnic minority founded a branch of Dega Protestantism, a type of evangelical Christianity followed by many Montegnards in Vietnams central highlands, in April 2001.

Human Rights Watch has received credible first-hand reports of an escalation of repression by Vietnamese authorities against the ethnic minorities known as Montagnards in Vietnam's Central Highlands.1 Human rights violations have continued unabated since protests for land rights and religious freedom began in February 2001.

In addition, dozens and perhaps hundreds of Montagnards have tried and failed to obtain protection and asylum from the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cambodia. Since the beginning of this year, more than 100 Montagnards have been forcibly returned from Cambodia to Vietnam.

Ten years ago, demonstrations were held around the world to
protest political repression and imprisonment in South Vietnam.
Seven years ago, Communist forces completed their conquest of
South Vietnam. In June of 1975, the new regime ordered hundreds
of thousands of Vietnamese to report to authorities for
"re-education". Many are still held in the camps today, but the
world is mostly silent on their plight.

"Re-education" means different things to different people. To the
Hanoi regime and its more vocal defenders abroad, re-education is
seen as a very positive way to integrate the former enemy into
the new society. It is, according to Communist leaders of
Vietnam, an act of mercy, since those in the camps deserve the
death penalty or life imprisonment.(1). The former prisoners, on
the other hand, see re-education from quite a different
perspective.

Reeducation in Postwar Vietnam:

When helicopters plucked the last Americans off the roof
of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon in 1975, countless Vietnamese
who had worked for the Americans remained behind. Many
were arrested and sent to "reeducation" camps, where they
faced forced labor, indoctrination sessions, and severe
privation.

Isn't that some legacy to be proud of? Who else but Communists could be proud of that accomplishment. What scares me is that I have no doubt that sKerry would treat all of us the same, if he ever got the chance.

I thought WHAAAT?????
Then I see it's the VVAW. Of course they are justifying themselves and
their actions.
I honor all the Vietnam Vets who fought in that war to free a country from
Communism. But the VVAW dishonored themselves by their actions
upon returning to the U.S., DOOMING THE PEOPLE OF VIETNAM TO A
LIFE OF PERSECUTION AND STRIFE.

Can this stuff be sent to Hanoi Jane and Hanoi Johnny? I think it's time for their 're-education'.

How can people be so blind? Even their hindsight is blind. They can't see the damage they caused or the ongoing results of their fine efforts. To think that Johnny actually could have been pres with the help of dirty deeds from activists groups such as cBS and Hollyweird. It makes me sick to think that could have happened.
