Illegal Immigration

For years the US has allowed immigrants to cross our southern borders. The government has allowed these illegals to come into the US using the excuse that they will work for less than US citizens will. That is the biggest lie ever told and sold by our government.

When there are honest people willing to come to our country by legal means I think it is a slap in the face to those immigrants here legally to allow these illegals entrance and then a free pass once within our borders. I do not wish to villanize these immigrants. Many come to escape poverty, earn money to send home to house and feed their impoverished family, however, this is no excuse for breaking our laws.

The Mexican Government has created, published, and distributed over thousands of comic like books to explain to their countrymen how to enter the US illegally, how to remain inconspicuous once within our borders, going so far to advice the males not to hit their wives or abuse them, obviously a common thing in Mexico, so as not to alert police to themselves.

Our Government is breaking their back to be lenient calling the Minutemen vigilantes. Vigilantes? When a community sets up a neighborhood watch it is considered good citizenship. But when a group of concerned citizens sets up a border watch they are considered vigilantes. Our President sent the wrong message the day he decided to compromise what is right to be politically and socially correct the day he himself called the Minutemen vigilantes.

There is an increasingly growing trend in our country to be hypocritical, in denial, and totally oblivious to what is right and what is wrong. It seems to me one would rather sell their soul to the devil than to stand up and do what is right. Our elected officials are going with their own personal agendas and the agendas of special interest groups instead of doing what is right for our country and its future.

Se habla espanol? Si. Nothing wrong with being bi-lingual, but there is something definitely wrong when our government continues to allow illegals to enter, remain, and work in our country while so many of us legal citizens cannot find work, even menial work because illegals are hold up with our jobs, employers break laws to save a buck, and our taxpaying dollar are used to support this wrong and illegal practice.

I say to our government regarding illegals, “asta la vista”............get out. Deport them now. America is for those that abide by our laws not willingly break them!

Such wonderful utterings but way off the mark. Sure, its easy to blame the government for allowing this to happen - the government is faceless and nameless so it must be "them" that's doing it; or in this case, not doing enough.

Well, its not. The simple fact remains there are citizens of the United States who actively encourage illegal migration. Whether its by turning a blind eye, not getting involved, hiring illegals, or just by accusing the government, we each have shared in the blame.

To truly reduce the number of illegals in the U.S. there are certain steps we can take and to be frank, bolstering the Border Patrol is probably last on the list. Not in any specific order:

First, we must hold our elected officials, not "government", accountable. Demand and enact laws that clearly state that an illegal in this country DOES NOT have the same constitutional guarantees legal citizens have. We can ensure they have the rights of their homeland but not of ours.

Second, no more of the liberalized bennies. We spend millions each year catering to illegals with multi-lingual information pamphlets to voting ballots! One of the purposes of a lengthy naturalization process is to allow the applicant to LEARN the language and our culture before becoming a citizen. There is no encouragement to do so if we simply hand out free this or that in an illegal's native language.

Third, and probably one of the biggest steps we can take is to shut down the lobby factor. This is directly tied into my first point yet is often overlooked because it comes under the color of "reasoned debate". In each state where there is a large illegal working base, there are lawyers whose sole purpose is to lobby for increased benefits (#2) and for new ones (in Washington state they even passed a guarantee of education!). I tie this in with my first point because there ARE politicians who do have a name and do have a face who bow to this lobbying pressure in an attempt to stay in office.

Fourth, shut down the hiring of illegals by enforcing and yes, increasing the penalties under the law. Those who use an illegal workforce need to be shut down completely, not just fined.

And fifth, not because there aren't more points but simply because I'm running out of time this morning, each of us must stop turning a blind eye to what we know is an illegal activity. As mentioned in a post under a different topic, each of us can be part of a community watch. Just like the minutemen demonstrated, it doesn't take that much to observe and report and contrary to the detractors, its not vigilantism, just good citizenship.

While I may not have expressed myself as well as I would have liked, perhaps this summary will suffice:

We first make it public knowledge that we will no longer support those who enter the country illegally. Illegals will not be granted, given or otherwise allowed the same rights, privileges or benefits as we citizens. In brief, they are not welcome here.

We make it public knowledge that we will not tolerate those to come here illegally to work nor those who would employ them. In brief, they will not be supported.

We make it VERY clear to our elected officials that we absolutely will not tolerate representation contrary to those previously stated points and beliefs. In brief, they will not be reelected.

Each of us can do this. All we have to do is reject the nameless, faceless "government" label. Identify just one and put a name to the face, then express your disgust in their actions. There can be no hiding amongst the herd if we are to succeed.

Sorry, not off the mark because we the people elected most of our governement, a government to represent us the people, NOT illegal immigrants.

Many of us do not turn a blind eye, I for one never have.

Hence why I wrote the so called utterings. I believe we the people are making quite clear we will no longer tolerate this. Some are called Minutemen, some include government officials, some are journalist, and then there are those like myself who prefere to provoke one to introspection and thought, thus, that in itself, call it what you will does provoke change however long it takes.

Well folks you seem to have touched all the points of how to fix illegal immigration.

The one thing America must never do is fashion another amnesty program for illegal aliens. This emboldens hundreds of thousands more to make the trip for the next round.

Arnold had it right when he said, "close the borders". It makes no sense to deport someone who can reappear in less than a week, only to disappear among the masses until they are discovered again. The revolving door must be shut down.

I once proposed a solution to the shortage of Border Patrol agents quite similar to the Minutemen project. Each year we train tens of thousands of troops at the National Desert Warfare Training Center located at Fort Irwin, CA. It costs millions of dollars each year to logistically move them and their equipment to the Warfare Center.

My idea was to extend this training while the troops and support equipment were already in place with an additional course. We paid to get them there, why not keep them for a while?

After completing their training scenarios at Fort Irwin the units would deploy along the border areas of California and Arizona to continue training with a course in interdiction techniques (this would have been useful in Iraq) until they are relieved by the next class from Fort Irwin.

The Army brings to the battlefield the tools needed for the job, such as night vision equipment, field gear, vehicles and the all-important Apache Helicopter with its’ variety of equipment to track ground targets. Since this would be a military training exercise the rules of engagement are quite simple, interdict border crossers, detain for questioning and transfer to the appropriate government agency after all useful intelligence is exhausted.

The deployed units would be under orders not to fire unless fired upon by hostiles, although warning shots would be allowed to deter escape from custody.

Detention centers along the border would be created to hold illegal border crossers to give the troops training in caring for prisoners in a field environment and to extract useful intelligence. This training, conducted in advance of going to war, might have stopped some of the cases of mistreatment that were observed in Iraq.

It can be said; “The view of an M-1 Tank on the horizon is quite a deterrent to an illegal border jumper.” and well within our rights to deploy in an effort to secure our Nation State.

So what do you all think? I didn’t get much of a response when I floated this idea up the chain. In fact; the sound of silence was deafening.

doll, my apologies. As I said, I may not be expressing myself as well as I should.

The gist of my post is that we must identify those who are undermining the law. We must put a face and a name to that "government". Only then can we affect change.

Yes – and thanks for the reminder....

PhantomSgt: were you serious about the suggested “additional course” for our military training in the U.S. with regards to apprehending illegals – and learning “interdiction techniques,” and “detaining for questioning and setting up detention centers?” I can’t imagine such a scenario and have no comment. But you did get me interested in our military training in the desert and how that impacts our border, and I found this article regarding increased military assistance to the Border Patrol which is encouraging:
(excerpts/emphasis mine)
Quote:
Military’s use on the border expands,” by Bill Hess, Sierra Vista Herald – 4/21/05

NACO, Ariz. - Military units are now allowed to do more along the U.S.-Mexico border, which includes helping to spot illegal immigrants, a spokesman for Joint Task Force North said. Earlier this year, a Stryker unit from Alaska deployed to New Mexico, where it provided ground surveillance and reconnaissance that led to the apprehension of "a number" of illegal immigrants and drug smugglers, Armando Carrasco said Tuesday. <….>

In the past, military units were limited to counterdrug missions. As such, they were under Joint Task Force Six, the predecessor headquarters for what is now Joint Task Force North. "It had to have a counterdrug nexus," Carrasco said. In late September, just a few days before the beginning of the fiscal year, Joint Task Force North came into being, with its headquarters remaining at Fort Bliss, Texas. <…>

With the establishment of Joint Task Force North, JTF-N, under the U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colo., the operational area now includes the entire North American continent and the surrounding water out to approximately 500 nautical miles, which includes most of the Gulf of Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. JTF-N's mission is to support federal law enforcement agencies in the "interdiction of suspected transnational threats within and along the approaches to the continental United States," Carrasco said. That means military units can be more active in looking for illegal immigrants, some of whom may be terrorists, in the United States, he said. However, a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine may not detain an illegal immigrant. They have to call the federal law enforcement agency they are working with so that agency does the apprehension, Carrasco said. <…>

According to a March 29 El Paso Times article, the 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, spent 60 days in New Mexico working with the Border Patrol. During that time, the soldiers used 40 vehicles equipped with long-range advanced scout surveillance systems - equipment used in daylight and at night. They were responsible for the Border Patrol's apprehension of 2,500 illegal immigrants and confiscation of more than 6,000 pounds of marijuana in New Mexico, according to the newspaper's article.

Carrasco said the use of the Alaska Stryker unit paid off for the Army and the Border Patrol. The Army gained important desert training for the unit that is deploying to Iraq, and the Border Patrol had extra surveillance assets at a time it needed them. "We have the (military) assets that will get tremendous training opportunities, while we provide federal law enforcement agencies extra forces for homeland security," Carrasco said.

Yes, on this I agree. I don’t know about “deploying troops to the border” -- however, could we have an indirect deployment by setting up more military bases and training facilities in those areas? Imagine sneaking along through the hills on the paths into the U.S. only to end up looking down on this:

Stryker infantry carrier vehicles with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division move through the "Box" at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif. The 3rd Brigade is the first to undergo certification as a Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

------------------------------------------
After viewing some military desert exercise videos, I’m all for increasing our training down along our border –increased military activity and surveillance -- and throw in joint tasking with the Border Patrol while they are at it – great for everyone involved and helpful in giving some teeth to the abstract notion of “Homeland Security”:

It is a supply and demand problem.
Just as with the drug problem, where there will always be someone willing to run the risk of supplying as long as there is a demand (profit motive), the illegals will find a way to cross as long as there is a demand for their labor (there is that profit motive thing again)
Shut off the demand......severely punish those who hire them.........jail time........stiff fines........when the Los Angeles homeowner is hit with a $10,000 fine for employing the gardener or a maid.......or ........the roofing contractor loses his business for hiring them,........ the demand will dry up and there will be no incentive for them to come.
There could still be a Green Card program to allow a controllable number to enter for legitimate need, such as field workers, etc, but it can and must be controlled.

Just heard on Laura's show today that Hitlery is poised to jump on this
issue to get attention amid the discussion of Bolton and judges. She
may be an inept politician in some ways, but she shows good instincts
in trying to co-opt illegal immigration to futher her own ambitions.

What a delicious thought. Thousands of Stryker infantry carriers training along the Great River with troops authorized to stop, not arrest -- stop, illegal aliens. What great great training and what a great statement to the world.

I have no problem with the troops in training placing unknown persons commiting illegal acts in detention. We are at WAR folks and every effort needs to be made to secure our borders East, West, North and South.

We had no problem with placing troops on our borders during WWII or placing our own citizens in military confinement for the sake of National Security. We had no problem during the Cold War manning Nike sites and observation posts along the borders. So what in the heck is the problem now? If the law needs to be changed, change it before it is too late.

FINALLY A CALIFORNIA REP WITH A BRAIN!!

California Border Patrol Is Proposed

By Robert Salladay
Times Staff Writer

May 5, 2005

SACRAMENTO — California would create its own border patrol of more than 1,000 officers and volunteers under a possible 2006 ballot initiative introduced Wednesday by conservative activists and a state assemblyman.

The California Border Police Act was submitted to Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer for legal review Wednesday, the first step in getting it qualified for next year's June ballot.

Its main sponsor is Assemblyman Ray Haynes, a Republican from Murrieta, who must collect 600,000 valid signatures for the initiative to qualify.

"The federal government has proven itself incapable of securing our borders, so it is time for Californians to step up and take matters into our own hands," Haynes said.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not connected with the initiative effort and is not commenting on it, his office said.

Political consultant Dave Gilliard, who is organizing the signature-gathering effort, said the new immigration police force would report to the governor and hire 1,000 to 2,000 new officers at an estimated cost of $300 million. It also would allow the state to train volunteers to patrol the border.

The measure would ask California voters to declare a state of emergency on immigration and renew that emergency status in 10 years through another ballot measure.

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, a Democrat from Los Angeles, said if a new police force required "spending more state dollars, I think we have to take a second look at that because we do have to be fiscally prudent."
