I find one doesn't really need to go to the movies anymore to see the movie itself. The previews on TV give everything away. BUT.... I really have to go see "Revenge of the Sith" and Harry Potter but only after the crowds thin. Does that mean I'm a sell-out? |

Of course it does.
I'm going to join your ranks for Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy, also after the crowds thin out.
I suspect my crowds will thin out long before yours do, though. |

Ok, I realize most of us don't go to see BABS,Cher and Rosie, but will go to see Harry Potter, but my other concern was Newspapers. I would love to see everyone pick a date and cancel their subscription at least for a week. We can get most of the news on the web and on tv. So I'm going for JUNE 6th as the day to stop subscriptions to all the newspapers who will only give the liberal side of the news. Anyone with me? |

hey, I'd be with ya on the newspapers..... but I already don't get any.
I could call and tell 'em I'm canceling anyway....
I've only seen 2 movies in the last 2 yrs .... one was Ben A in a silly movie as a single dad (a friend and I went just to see something light and funny) and Gibson's movie - that was good!!!
I was thinking of going to Hanoi Jane's new movie.... then I realized I mixed her and JLo up. I had been thinking how fun it'd be to see more of H Jane having her face smacked into that cake (it was a cake right?); then I realized it was JLo not Jane that got her face pounded into the cake. Dang! ruined all the fun and laughs I thought I was gonna get....
I won't be going to any this summer.... it's to hot for me to drive into town during the day and I don't like driving in a lot of traffic after dark. So, no
movies for me. _________________ Stevie

Hi, good to be back and see everyone still here! Interesting
reading the Hollywood responses...because I've wondered
how many others felt as I (and mine) feel. We have not
supported Hollywood since Hollywood came out against
our soldiers, our President, and Iraq..."Not in our Name"
etc. Americans were out of work and Hollywood lived
off money I've contributed so they could publicly buy
ads in papers (ads I couldn't afford to buy) and spew their
socialist garbage...and stand on the pulpit and on tv
spewing even more...nope, not this time Hollywood...
I lived through Vietnam...you don't get a second
time...our family watches Hallmark channel until one of
Hollywoods wags are on and the channel changes...
tomorrow "court TV" (I think it's court tv) will have
Martin Sheen plugging anti death penalty politics...
It doesn't matter what my view is on the subject...I
dislike what Sheen stands for...won't be watching...
I support actors and movies that support America
and our soldiers such as Bruce Willis and Ron Silva
and others I forget now because of the time...
I liked all of the Tomb Raiders until I found out
Angelina is an ambassador for the UN...gotta rethink
that one...
Oh...well...while I'm on it...anybody else see
Jane Fonda's picture in the paper wiping tobaccy spit off
her face from a Vet? I have saved the article...
kiss that vet...notice she has a movie out...won't
be seeing that one either...Penn has one out...
won't be seeing that one either...notice Hollywood
is pairing these activist actors up with other actors/
actresses that weren't so public hoping that will
draw the people?
Freedom of Speech and expression is a two way
street...Hollywood hasn't learned that yet...

Welcome aboard all..., to paraphrase a great American..."What y'all said, I agree. I've not been to a movie since Hollywood en masse supported Jimmuh (Karter, that is, the first Klintonista). And I don't plan to attend any theatre for any reason until they change their tune. " 'Tho my PC wife did drag me kicking and screaming to 'Schindlers's list'.....pretty much reinforced my boycott.
That said, I also boycotted Baseball after the first strike (also around '81)...but since have relenquished after visiting Wrigley Field with my son back on July 4th week, 2003...so theoretically anyway, Hollywood could always find a reprieve some decade in the future!

I don't know why Hollywod is nervous about the attendance at any particular performance. They get what they sow. If they produce a good movie that appeals to all then they make money. If their work reeks of political inuendo and their own agendas then they can only blame themselves for poor viewer turnout and lack of profits. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

My husband would like to go see a movie once in a while but there hasn't been much worth seeing in quite a while and the prices keep going up even at the matinees. My daughter won't allow the grandkids, 3 years to 14 years go to the movies anymore because even the ones advertised for children have sexual innuendos. (The sickos have taken over.) |

A couple of years ago, my #1 grandkid asked if I'd tape Yu Yu Hakusho
for her off of Cartoon Network. OK. I got hooked. Back in the spring
of '55, the "Good Comics Code" knocked off all the good comic books
and I stopped buying them. I went to paper backs instead. Not much
TV out at sea in those days, so I got out of the TV habit. Being a watch
stander (engineering) cut out most movies. It had to be GOOD to give
up 2 hours of sleep for.
So for years, the TV has been on mainly for the kids and I kick back
with a good book. Then somewhere in the last 5 years or so, the books
got boring.
Now the kid has me on mangas and anime. WOW! The 50s live again.
Now that "Adult Swim" is getting better anime and showing between
10 PM and 5 AM I have some entertainment back. Check it out. This
Saturday night we get the second episode of Samurai Champloo and
the first Inuyasha movie. After that they will start up Paranoia Agent
and S-Cryed. Full Metal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell are re-running
the 1st 26 episodes on the week nights. If it's too late, that's what
recorders are for. Cartoon Network before 10 at night has the kiddie
cut on it. Not so much for the kiddies, but for their moms. So the blogs
and Drudge make the MSM irrelevant, so anime can make Hollywierd
irrelevant. It's not the actors that make a movie...It's the writing
stupid!
Oh. I cancelled my newspaper subscription about 10 years ago. Recently,
they've changed the size, type and paper composition. From time to
time, I save the office issue from the circular file to take home for use
in lighting off my Bar-Be-Que. I have one of those chimney effect
charcoal lighters. The problem is that the thing keeps going out with
the new type paper. Maybe I'll just have to buy a Sunday Chicago
Trib. That should be enough for a whole season of Bar-Be-Que. _________________ Tin Can Sailor |

|
|
On the way to work this morning I heard on the radio a report that the
owner of two large local movie complexes (Louisville, Ky) will not be
showing "Monster in Law" due to Jane Fonda's actions during the Viet
Nam war. "People need to be held accountable for their actions" he
said. Sorry to say I didn't catch his name or which two theatres he
owns. Couldn't find the story in today's Courier Journal or the WHAS
840 Radio website. I hope I can find some reference in tomorrow's
news (on line of course) as this is one movie theatre I want to make
sure to patronize. They didn't say if he was a Veteran, but I bet he
is. Regardless, he'll get my business for taking a stand and doing
what is right against a traitor. If I find more info tomorrow I will post.

Quote: | Fonda flick doesn't fly in Hardin County
By JOHN FRIEDLEIN
The owner of Hardin County's two movie theaters is refusing to show the nation's top-grossing movie.
Like many veterans, Ike Boutwell has an issue with "Monster-in-Law" star Jane Fonda. On the ticket window at the Elizabethtown Movie Palace is a sign that tells movie goers the cinema will not show the film because of what she did in Vietnam. Below the message are pictures of Fonda clapping with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft crew in 1972.
The sign on the marquee outside Showtime Cinemas in Radcliff reads: "No Jane Fonda movie in this theater."
More than 30 years after the war's end, Boutwell still bears a grudge.
"I trained a lot of pilots during the Vietnam conflict," he said.
Some of his students died from rounds fired from guns like the one Fonda visited during her anti-war trip.
"I think when people do something, they need to be held responsible for their actions," he said. "When you give the enemy aid, it makes the war last longer."
He also refused to show Michael Moore's controversial "Fahrenheit 9/11" and has banned Fonda movies from his theater in the past. Fonda's last movie was 1990's "Stanley & Iris."
Boutwell's stance against her latest movie means he's taking a financial hit. "Monster-in-Law" was last weekend's top-grossing movie, bringing in more than $23 million at 3,424 locations nationwide, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and Nielsen EDI Inc.
The film is a romantic comedy about a mom who tries to wreck her son's relationship.
Amy Haire, who works the ticket booth of the Elizabethtown theater, has received mixed reaction to Boutwell's decision.
"A lot of the older gentlemen thought it was great," she said.
She got bad looks, though, from some girls and young women who wanted to see the film. She would point to the pictures and tell them it's the owner's discretion not to show it.
Joe Kinney, of Radcliff, said the theater should show the movie and let customers make up their minds about whether to see it. However, he said he isn't a fan of Fonda for political reasons.
Despite a few negative comments, Boutwell received mostly positive feedback.
One Elizabethtown man made a special trip to the theater Monday to thank him.
"I think Vietnam veterans appreciate this," said Sal Mancuso, who fought in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam war. He thinks Fonda should be in prison for treason.
Asked about her belated apology for posing in the anti-aircraft pictures, Mancuso laughed. "There is no defense for what she did," he said.
Spc. Mike Carwile, who is with a National Guard medical detachment, said he wasn't even a twinkle in his father's eye when Fonda visited Vietnam.
The 22-year-old learned about her Vietnam War-era activities when he saw the notice outside the theater Monday. He supported Boutwell's decision.
"I think everyone's responsible for what they do," he said.

wpage,
Thank you so much for finding the article I heard about on the radio
and sharing it here. Elizabethtown/Radcliff is just a short drive south
on I 65 from Louisville and I really appreciate you locating the source.
I will be visiting this Patriot and his movie theatres.
