Thanks to the folks over at CW , I became aware of what appears to be the intentional omission of any reference to a Supreme Being within the selected inscriptions at the WWII Memorial. I say intentional in light of the fact that one of the most quoted and memorable oratorical phrases to emerge from that era was the following...
Quote: | With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt - Joint Congressional Session - December 8, 1941
|
In lieu of the above, which many Americans can almost recite by heart, it is unconscionable to me that the planners of this Memorial have, instead, selected a much lesser known portion of Roosevelt's speech to include as an inscription and tacked it onto another memorable phrase via (... ) to lend it a gravitas that it didn't and still doesn't historically enjoy
Quote: | PEARL HARBOR
DECEMBER 7, 1941, A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY…NO
MATTER HOW LONG IT MAY TAKE US TO OVERCOME THIS
PREMEDITATED INVASION, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, IN THEIR
RIGHTEOUS MIGHT, WILL WIN THROUGH TO ABSOLUTE VICTORY.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt |
I'm also of the strong opinion that, were those memorialized made aware beforehand of this glaring surrender to PC, the ruckus that would have ensued would have made Pearl Harbor seem like a picnic.
IMHO, this is yet another wrong to be righted and, hopefully those who are as outraged as I am at this will somehow make public note of it at every opportunity they have to visit this Memorial. |

I totally agree, #1. I'm getting very tired of any and reference to God being disallowed in everything.
I thought the left were the people of "tolerance" and "diversity?" Seems they are only tolerant of their view of things and will not allow others to openly express their views."
Had they included mention of God in the Memorial, I imagine the ACLU would have had a field day running off to court to have it demolished, but I also tire of their neverending push to make every Citizen an atheist.
Some are fighting back and I'm glad about that. Just because God is included in some Public Memorials and buildings doesn't mean an atheist must start believing in Him. It's time for the left to really practice what they preach and become tolerant of those that believe in God and just ignore it. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

Not this one again. When I went last year with a group of WWII vets, we certainly didn't feel it was Godless. In fact we felt surrounded by God as people were praying, and doing all kinds of things in reverence. It is a holy place. I felt the same sacred presence of God I felt on my first visit to The Viet Nam Vets memorial.
Franklin D. Roosevelt's Infamy Speech
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 8, 1941
Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong. Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam. Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands. Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island. This morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December seventh, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire."

They chose the portion with the most relevance, for the space needed. I doubt PC was involved. One may disagree, but that's my take. Note the phrase " Righteous Might" .
