"The greatest political mystery of all time was solved yesterday with the revelation of the identity of Woodward and Bernstein's "Deep Throat." So says the mainstream press, in yet another orgy of self congratulation over their long ago Watergate triumph.
For those who were paying attention during the Clinton years, however, curiosity about "Deep Throat's" identity pales next to some of the unsolved mysteries of the 1990s that the media never cared about.
Such as:
• Who threatened Kathleen Willey? On the eve of her January 1998 testimony in the Paula Jones case, Willey was approached by mysterious man who noted that her car tires had been slashed and her cat was missing, before rattling off the names of her children.
The mystery man then threatened: "I hope you're getting the message." Investigators never learned the identity of the man who tried to intimidate Ms. Willey."
