How is this possible?

Experts say 109 sites have had material removed since invasion

UNITED NATIONS - U.N. satellite imagery experts have determined that material that could be used to make biological or chemical weapons and banned long-range missiles has been removed from 109 sites in Iraq, U.N. weapons inspectors said in a report obtained Thursday. |

Didn't the Bush Administration lie about the existence of these weapons to justify a war? Isn't sKerry poised to call for Bush's impeachment over a British memo showing he conspired to lie about the existence of these weapons?
I just don't understand how non-existent material could now be missing as well _________________ Clark County Conservative |

Probably to be found in the same place as the non-existant ordinance that wasn't at AL Qaqaa that vanished. Beamed up to Calypso Louie's mothership, no doubt. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

I read long ago that satellites picked up convoys of trucks leaving Iraq into Syria before the invasion. Here is a more recent linK;
http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20050427-121915-1667r.htm
This is from the article posted above:
Speculation on WMDs in Syria was fueled by the fact that satellite images picked up long lines of trucks waiting to cross the border into Syria before the coalition launched the invasion. Mr. Duelfer previously had reported that Syria was a major conduit for materials entering Iraq that were banned by the United Nations.
Saddam placed such importance on illicit trade with Syria that he dispatched Iraqi Intelligence Service agents to various border crossings to supervise border agents, and, in some cases, to shoo them away, senior officials told The Washington Times last year.
Today, U.S. officials charge that Syria continues to harbor Saddam loyalists who are directing and financing the insurgency in Iraq. The Iraq-Syria relationship between two Ba'athist socialist regimes has further encouraged speculation of weapons transfers.
Several senior U.S. officials have said since the invasion that they thought WMD went to Syria.
Retired Marine Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong, the deputy commander of U.S. Central Command during the war, said in his book, "Inside CentCom," that intelligence reports pointed to WMD movement into Syria.
In October, John A. Shaw, then the deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security, told The Times that Russian special forces and intelligence troops worked with Saddam's intelligence service to move weapons and material to Syria, Lebanon and possibly Iran.
"The organized effort was done in advance of the conflict," he said. |

I also remember General Franks had said several times that the WMD's were moved into Syria. He and Rifle probably saw it together.

Now let me get this straight in my peanut brain: The United Nations didn't have time to personally visit the sites containing WMD materials and only reviewed satellite data to make sure they were still in place.
So what in the hell was Mr. Keys looking for? Over a year went by and they couldn't find WMD and they never looked in the places where they knew it existed. This is madness.
This is a bigger story than the Oil-For-Food scandal. Why do we suffer these fools from the United Nations and why didn't we have a plan to secure this crap before and after the war. Before, by blowing it up if it was moving and after, by putting boots on the ground.

That is one thing Bush should never have done, gone to the UN in the first place. While they were playing the shell game with us and re-voting everything, Iraq was moving all the WMD's out.
Funny, Bush said the UN may become irrelevant, and heres the press treating that article as irrelevant. _________________ Peace is acheived through victory |

This has been known for a long time. I posted something similar a while back in this thread titled Most Under Reported Story-UNMOVIC Report on Iraq

The United Nations has determined that Saddam Hussein shipped weapons of mass destruction components as well as medium-range ballistic missiles before, during and after the U.S.-led war against Iraq in 2003. The UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission briefed the Security Council on new findings that could help trace the whereabouts of Saddam's missile and WMD program. The briefing contained satellite photographs that demonstrated the speed with which Saddam dismantled his missile and WMD sites before and during the war. Council members were shown photographs of a ballistic missile site outside Baghdad in May 2003, and then saw a satellite image of the same location in February 2004, in which facilities had disappeared.
UNMOVIC acting executive chairman Demetrius Perricos told the council on June 9 that "the only controls at the borders are for the weight of the scrap metal, and to check whether there are any explosive or radioactive materials within the scrap," Middle East Newsline reported. "It's being exported," Perricos said after the briefing. "It's being traded out. And there is a large variety of scrap metal from very new to very old, and slowly, it seems the country is depleted of metal." "The removal of these materials from Iraq raises concerns with regard to proliferation risks," Perricos told the council. Perricos also reported that inspectors found Iraqi WMD and missile components shipped abroad that still contained UN inspection tags. He said the Iraqi facilities were dismantled and sent both to Europe and around the Middle East. at the rate of about 1,000 tons of metal a month. Destionations included Jordan, the Netherlands and Turkey.
The Baghdad missile site contained a range of WMD and dual-use components, UN officials said. They included missile components, reactor vessel and fermenters – the latter required for the production of chemical and biological warheads. "It raises the question of what happened to the dual-use equipment, where is it now and what is it being used for," Ewen Buchanan, Perricos's spokesman, said. "You can make all kinds of pharmaceutical and medicinal products with a fermenter. You can also use it to breed anthrax." The UNMOVIC report said Iraqi missiles were dismantled and exported to such countries as Jordan, the Netherlands and Turkey. In the Dutch city of Rotterdam, an SA-2 surface-to-air missile, one of at least 12, was discovered in a junk yard, replete with UN tags. In Jordan, UN inspectors found 20 SA-2 engines as well as components for solid-fuel for missiles. "The problem for us is that we don't know what may have passed through these yards and other yards elsewhere," Buchanan said. "We can't really assess the significance and don't know the full extent of activity that could be going on there or with others of Iraq's neighbors." UN inspectors have assessed that the SA-2 and the short-range Al Samoud surface-to-surface missile were shipped abroad by agents of the Saddam regime. Buchanan said UNMOVIC plans to inspect other sites, including in Turkey. In April, International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Mohammed El Baradei said material from Iraqi nuclear facilities were being smuggled out of the country.

For my money, the U.S. should just withdraw from the U.N.
The U.N. hosts the most corrupt pack of miscreants and malcontents that ever crawled out from under a rock. They occupy some of the most expensive prime real estate in America and do everything in their power to promote hate of America throughout the world. Besides everything else, their delegates routinely break American laws and hide under their diplomatic immunity. Collecting even 10% of the traffic fines alone would make New York City financially solvent. If they want a clubhouse to meet in, let it be in France, where they aren't fond of Americans anyway. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |
