ALBANY -- "Republican Edward Cox, a son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, will soon form an exploratory committee to prepare for an expected run against Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a top adviser said Tuesday.

Lynn Mueller, an Albany-based consultant, said the budding campaign has already hired fund-raisers and a pollster."

Maybe this time the NY State Republicans will do something besides make a halfvast(sic) effort to back a viable candidate. Lazio was a decent candidate, but they needed a heavyweight and they needed to back him which they did not do. When the Red Queen cruises to victory without a bump in the road it inflates her ego (even larger) and increases her sense of entitlement. Let's hope Ed Cox can give a good fight and win. It will be tough as the Clintonista Slime Machine will work overtime.

Good luck to him. The only thing I remember of him was Hanoi Jane trying to crash his Rose Garden wedding.

Now, if Julie Nixon Eisenhower ran for something I'ld be there with an open checkbook. That gal's a class act.

I am extemely excited to hear about this! I heard that he will be questioning what she has really done for NY, which is basically nothing.

Everyone has this idea that she has done so many things, yet I don't know what they are. He will confront her properly.

Can't wait!

MSNBC
New York: Hillary's Challenger
Quote:
May 16 issue - Edward Cox, a New York corporate lawyer and son-in-law of Richard Nixon, will definitely run next year for the U.S. Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton, NEWSWEEK has learned. Cox is best known for his 1971 White House wedding to Tricia Nixon, but he has a quiet public record in the Reagan administration and has worked on education-reform issues for New York Gov. George Pataki. The Clinton re-election campaign is expressing no worry about Cox, but insiders know her potential 2008 presidential campaign depends on a big margin of victory, and they're scrambling to figure how facing Cox might change that equation.

Cox backers have a poll showing Clinton vulnerable in western New York, where they say she made promises of economic improvement that have not materialized. Cox will also argue that a bipartisan state like New York needs bipartisan representation (the state's other senator, Charles Schumer, is a Dem), and that he could work better with the Bushies for New York's benefit. So far, no well-known Republican has stepped up to take on Clinton, so Cox may quickly emerge as the favorite in the GOP primary.

Cox will campaign as a fiscal conservative and environmentalist and may break with the Bush administration a bit on both issues. One wild card is the Nixon connection. Cox's poll shows that on first reference, respondents found Cox's family a slight negative, but when told that Cox learned about world affairs by sitting in on President Nixon's meetings with foreign leaders—a possible theme of Cox's advertising—respondents viewed his association with the disgraced former prez as a positive.

Hitlary is not only vulnerable in Western NY, upstate is Red, Red, Red. NYCity metro & the metro areas of western NY are what win the Dems elections. Make a dent there, and we have a race....

Ed Cox paid a visit in our neighborhood in UPstate NY the other day. ( sorry no link to local paper) Great demeanor, handles himself well. Looks Senatorial.
Didn't call Hillary by name, referred to her simply as "the other"

Quote:
The other, well she came to New York for the sole reason of running for the Senate. And now she is poised to leave the problems of New York behind, and to use New York as a stepping stone for president.

Says he plans to campaign aggressively around the state in the coming months, building up to a formal announcement in September.

Said his campaign will focus on making the president's tax cuts permanent, and supporting the presidents' foreign policy.

Quote:
Quoting former President Ronald Reagan, he said the essence of the Democratic party philosphy is, "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.
and he had no comment on Deep Throat... Wink

the man has my vote, hope he does well in building up some momentum

I don't know how he can make a dent in the NYC area. He must point out what "the other one" hasn't done for us. Ask anyone what Ms. Clinton has done for the city and not one person has an answer. As they are thinking about it he can then go for the pitch. How he can benefit the city without going on the attack. Very simple strategy. He must get the name recognition and the word out in a strong media blitz.

Then maybe, just maybe we can sway the votes. The Russian Jewish community on the whole voted for Bush and Staten Island is Bush country also.

Cool

Cox presses ahead with anti-Clinton race prep

By MARC HUMBERT
AP Political Writer

June 8, 2005, 12:49 PM EDT
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Edward Cox, a son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, is pressing ahead with preparations to seek the Republican nomination next year to challenge Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On Wednesday, the Manhattan lawyer named a chief strategist, manager and communications director for his Senate exploratory committee.

Earlier in the week, Cox had announced that GOP lawyer Ben Ginsberg would serve as the committee's counsel. Ginsberg, a top legal aide to President Bush's winning 2000 and 2004 campaigns, helped promote the Swift Boat advertising spots during last year's presidential race. The ads attacked Democratic Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam War record.

Cox has also put together a fund-raising team with strong connections to President Bush and to Pataki, and has named Fred Steeper, a veteran national GOP operative, as his campaign pollster.

Ex-Prez's son-in-law eyes run against her
BY JAMES GORDON MEEK and THOMAS M. DeFRANK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Edward Cox, Richard Nixon's son-in-law, will challenge Hillary Clinton in next year's Senate race, GOP sources said yesterday.
Officials helping Cox line up political and financial support believe Clinton is vulnerable because of a perception she's already planning a 2008 presidential race and also for having allegedly failed to keep campaign promises made during her 2000 run.

"She's not the Goliath the press is making her out to be," one Cox source said. And even if she were, he added, "we have the slingshot."

Cox strategists anticipate raking in millions from Republicans who want to dampen Clinton's 2008 prospects, the source said.
