CWV, et al,
You guys are all spot on....and to focus a little more on your point, I 'd like to add my 2cents...We all read about and empathized with the 175,000 southeast asians who died last year in the tsunami...
The 1971 US Senate in aiding and abetting the enemies of the US who were intent on murdering millions of southeast asians directly contributed to those murders. The left likes comparisons between the war on terror and the Vietnam War....well here's one: The Flag Day 2005 Senate, in aiding and abetting the enemies of the US this time are directly contributing to an enemy who is intent on murdering millions of Americans....a subtle difference, but ya gotta wonder why the US Senators who open their pieholes don't think they are making Targets of themselves!!!!! Now a further clarification, I used 'directly' instead of 'indirectly' for a reason....the 71 and '05 senates are directly responsible for any activities which result in the murder of innocents....those indirectly responsible are the voters who allow such pond scum to reach high office in the first place! and unfortunately, the 2005 senate may overreach the 1971 Senate in that category! IMHO.

Boy, you’ll be walking in deep-durbin! | No I didn't forget our 25th, however I failed to connect the dots that Durbin made his little speech on the 14th. The new media was on the story on the 15th and of course MSM was late getting to the party and the first to leave. A week from now the whole thing will be a faded memory. But every Flag day I will remember the Durbin words of 2005. And I will be sure to refresh the memories of anyone who will listen how that on Flag Day Durbin drug the honor of our troops and the good name of the United States of America thru the mud for his own selfish political gain without a single chastisement from the democratic leadership.
To bad we didn't make it a point to re visit the 6-6-71 Kerry words every year. If we had perhaps their wouldn't have ever been a candidate Kerry. Hine site is 20-20. |

Senator Feingold,
I reported to Veteran advocacy groups representing over ½ million veterans in the state that you have no position on Durbin’s comments. It has become so easy for Republican Veterans to persuade Democratic Veterans to join the Republican Party. All I need to show them is the 6-6-71 Senate testimony of John Kerry. And now I can add the 2005 Flag Day speech of Durbin. Not a single peep from the democratic leadership while Durbin provides aid & comfort to the enemy. Veterans understand how critical the political component is to victory and how costly it is when politicians make comments that add to the resolve of the enemy. And the blood of those caused by the increased resolve of the enemy is on the hands of all who quietly stood silent as Senator Durbin on Flag Day drug our troops & country thru the mud only to increase the resolve of the enemy. _________________ Defender of the honor of those in harms way keeping us out of harms way.

One of my Senators responded - a Democrat. (The Republican hasn't even bothered to do that, except by web-generated acknowledgement.)
Quote: |
One of my Senators says:
I know Senator Durbin, and I know that he has only the deepest respect for our troops and their families. He did not -- and would not -- intend to criticize our troops.
His official word of record says otherwise.
Nonetheless, to his credit, Senator Durbin recognized that he chose his words poorly and that he offended many people -- like yourself -- in using the words that he did. As a result, on June 21, Senator Durbin publicly apologized for his remarks on the floor of the United States Senate. Immediately after he apologized, Senator McCain commended Senator Durbin for his apology.
Senator Durbin did not apologize and anyone who believes that he did calls into question his or her own judgement.
He first shuffled responsibility off onto some White House conspiracy and then made some mumblings about some people believing he was out of line and to them, he was sorry.
I'll bet he was sorry. The sound of the million veterans in his state and millions of veterans' family members making phone calls and pledging to vote against him next election was a scary sound to him.
And Senator McCain is the last person to quote to members of either party. He's been playing both sides of the fence for so long that I'll bet he doesn't even have a clear conviction of his own left to articulate.
Better that you quote Chicago mayor Daley.
Below is part of the speech Senator Durbin gave in the Senate:
Please, Senator, please don't quote these sickenening phrases to your constituents.
We know what he said, all to well - what none of you seem to recognize is that the "remedy is actually worse than the disease" in this case!
How insulting to our intelligence! This carefully crafted non-apology is nothing more than a cynical attempt to redeem himself after what he said ten days ago!
Back when Trent Lott lauded Strom Thurmond at a birthday party, he issued five public apologies for one phrase he used, never waffled or evaded his words and his apology was not ever accepted. He was forced from his leadership position.
Do you remember what he said, and the spirit in which he said it?
Now we have a Senator who clearly and angrily denounces our military as like to the regimes of Pol Pot, the Nazis, etc. just because he supposedly has proof that a detainee was too cold or too hot, and you all just accept his non-apology and exhonerate him?
I feel like I've stepped into the twilight zone! Our troops are laboring under a lot worse conditions in BOOT CAMP than those detainees! Our troops are in much worse conditions in Afghanistan and Iraq than those detainees and they've freed and rebuilt two countries!
For the love of God, where is the sense of proportion in this matter? A Senator of our own government provided sound bites that went into immediate and effective use on al-jazeera and Islamist web sites within hours, and none of you see anything wrong with this?
I'm disgusted by the dearth of leadership shown in the Senate by both parties.
This man went out of control and clearly needs censure - that so few recognize this is frightening.
Who has custody of the US Government when our Senate is this spineless?
Your constituency contains a a fair number of veterans and families of those serving now. I hope you give them better consideration than this support for your fellow Senator run-amok.
Your email says, "Please do not respond to this email" - I'm supposed to go to the web form and fill that thing in again. This demonstrates the level of interest you have in reasonable discussion with your constituents?
I will go to bulletin boards and post my response in the form of an open letter, instead. |

I just heard on the radio that my representative, Ray LaHood is going
to be in town. There is going to be a naming (or renaming) of the local
VA Clinic. Whatever it was, it is now going to be the Bob Michael VA
Clinic. Aside from Bob Michael showing up, Dick Durbin is going to make
an appearance this Saturday. I wouldn't miss this for the world.

More on Durbin's visit to Peoria. He is going to speak to the State
VFW Convention sometime tomorrow. Not being a member of the
VFW, I won't be going to that one, but at 1 PM, he will be at the VA
Clinic for the naming ceremony. I WILL be at that one.
