Democrats Say Independence Cost Too Many Lives, Destroyed Socialist Paradise

"WASHINGTON, DC --- Democrats used the upcoming July 4th holiday to criticize the Founding Fathers for needlessly risking American lives for independence and destroying socialist paradise.

"Our Founding Fathers were elitist rich folks who sent the young to die for nothing, just like Bush today," said Howard Dean. "We need to remember that had these cowards not started the Revolutionary War, we'd be just like a liberal European country today with high taxes on everyone, low economic growth, and more social programs than people. Pure heaven in my opinion. Let's use this date to remember just how much was lost on Independence Day. Our Founding Fathers lied and people died. So did the dream of a socialist state."

This is a less than full review of "1776". I haven't read it but I saw Muculough on Book TV. He said George III wasn't the idiot often depicted. Washington was Virginia gentry which meant snob and slave master. But, Washington he said was able to learn from his military mistakes, was a charismatic inspiration to his men and an excellant judge of character in his choice of subordinates.

Listening to Mucculough his book sounded much like a rip-off of the recently revised, "The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution 1763-1789" (Oxford History of the United States) -- by Robert Middlekauff. In this excellant, Brit written tome Washington walks on water, Parliment is the arrogant villain, George III is rigid and the PMs are a series of hapless royal butt kissers. It's a long but satisfiing read.
