GLENEAGLES, Scotland -- "Italy plans to begin withdrawing some of its troops from Iraq in September, Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Friday.
Speaking at the end of the G-8 summit, Berlusconi said the withdrawal plans could change because they depend on security conditions on the ground and denied they were linked to any terrorist threats against Italy.
"We will begin withdrawing 300 men in the month of September," said Berlusconi, who has come under increasing pressure in Italy over his support for the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq.
He said the partial pullout would not compromise security for the remaining Italian troops or the zone of southern Iraq under their control."

Italy is deeply comatose. I'm sure PM Blair and the British people deeply appreciate the timing of this announcement.
I think we should offer the Pope early sanctuary in the US since Italy will be the 1st European country to fall during the Muslim invasion. We could set him up in Colorado and call it Vatican West before Italy becomes the foothold (no pun intended) for the invasion of Europe.
It is as it is written.
