Carville attacking Novak for being conservative. I think he did not want him talking about the Plame case because it will incriminate someone other than a member of the administration. Actually, I have had the feeling that Wilson leaked the name and is trying to make it look like Rove did it!

CNN Suspends Novak After He Walks Off Set

By DAVID BAUDER

NEW YORK -- CNN suspended commentator Robert Novak indefinitely after he swore and walked off the set Thursday during a debate with Democratic operative James Carville.

The live exchange during CNN's "Inside Politics" came during a discussion of Florida's Senate campaign. CNN correspondent Ed Henry noted when it was over that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of a CIA officer's identity.

A CNN spokeswoman, Edie Emery, called Novak's behavior "inexcusable and unacceptable." Novak apologized to CNN, and CNN was apologizing to viewers, she said.

"We've asked Mr. Novak to take some time off," she said.

A telephone message at Novak's office was not immediately returned Thursday.

Carville and Novak were both trying to speak while they were handicapping the GOP candidacy of Katherine Harris. Novak said the opposition of the Republican establishment in Florida might not be fatal for her.

"Let me just finish, James, please," Novak continued. "I know you hate to hear me, but you have to."

Carville, addressing the camera, said: "He's got to show these right wingers that he's got a backbone, you know. It's why the Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you. Show 'em that you're tough."

"Well, I think that's bull---- and I hate that," Novak replied. "Just let it go."

As moderator Henry stepped in to ask Carville a question, Novak walked off the set.

Only two weeks ago, CNN executives defended their decision to keep Novak on the air during the ongoing probe into the revelation of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity. In a July 2003 newspaper column, Novak identified Plame, the wife of administration critic and former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, as a CIA operative.

Wilson has said the leak of his wife's name was an attempt by the administration to discredit him. Two other reporters connected to the case openly fought the revelation of their sources, and Judith Miller of The New York Times has been jailed for refusing to cooperate with prosecutors.

Novak has repeatedly refused to comment about his role in the federal investigation.

After Novak walked off on Thursday, Henry said that Novak had been told before the segment that he was going to be asked on air about the CIA case.

"I'm hoping that we will be able to ask him about that in the future," Henry said.

Novak has been a longtime contributor to CNN, taking the conservative point of view during the just-canceled "Crossfire" show.

I just saw the video of this on Fox and frankly I commend Novak for his actions.

There are limits to what a human being should be forced to endure.
Carville was trying to win a debate not by using any cogent facts but by way of personal attacks on Novak.

As time settles this dust, the real looser is clearly Carville. There is very little meat to what he has to say, only 'playground' taunting.

Novak on the other hand is pure substance and historical perspective.

Carville needs people to not have a education with substance and historical perspective, in order to get his schtick to sell. He's essentially a carni barker.

Looking at the ratings of CNN vs Fox it's pretty clear the carnival is slowly rolling up its tents, hopefully the likes of carville with them.

Sorry no link, they played it as a short segment on fox and friends this moring

Carville's the junk yard dog for the wreckage of his party. A paid operative of the Demo's CNN displayed no scruples in hiring. His unqualified presence is more obscene than any tape-delayed utterance of Novak.

Nationally syndicated Novak doesn't need Carville's juvenile antics. He doesn't need Ed Henry to ask another inane question about the Plame grand jury. Most certainly, he doesn't need to keep his seat as the CNN bus plummets off the ratings cliff.

Ever since Carville was teamed with Begala, I've thrown CNN off my TV set. That is the departure that should worry them.

CNN's decision to use Carville wasn't motivated by better journalism, but by those who crunch the ratings numbers at CNN. They don't want informative discourse, they want a barroom brawl...and they got one. Jerry Springer already does that sort of fare...and much better.

Novak did not "swear". He called BS what it is. I still can't believe that "leak" is still being used as at this point. Everybody but Karl Rove seems to have known who Valerie Plame was. Pat Leahy knows what a leak is.

I am glad that Novak walked off the set. I am just surprised that he did
not do it a long time ago. I suffered through years of "The Capital Gang"
just to hear the brilliant comments of Bob Novak and Kate O'Beirne. The
rest of the gang (Margaret Carlson, Al Hunt, and Mark Shields) treated
Bob in such a condescending and disrespectful manner, but Bob would
take it all in stride and with a sense of humor. Those three "flaming
liberals" would twist the news in whatever way they could to make it
more favorable to the Dems and would try to blame all of the troubles
of the world on the Bush administration. Bob would patiently try to
explain the truth to them, but to no avail. Those three are the best
evidence for the liberal bias of the MSM that could possibly be found.
To tell the truth, I was not sorry that TCG went off the air at the end of
June, although I do miss seeing Bob and Kate. I could not stand to
watch the other three any more.

The liberal spin is that Bob walked off the set because the moderator
was going to ask him about the Valerie Plame affair, but he actually
turned to "Serpent Head" and asked him a question about Katherine
Harris and her run for the Senate. He had just allowed Carville to rudely
interrupt Bob, and then rewarded him by asking him the next question
instead of allowing Bob to finish his statement. The clip clearly shows
this to be the case. Another story going around is that Bob appeared
to be "slurring" his words, thus insinuating that he had been drinking
before he went on the air. After 15 years of watching and listening to
him, I can vouch for the fact that he often sounds as if he is slurring
his words. I sound that way if I have just eaten some ice, which I love
to do. I am a very infrequent drinker and I NEVER get drunk, yet
when I have eaten a cup of ice, I slur my words, too.

IMHO, Bob was just calling a spade a spade and high time, too!! I love
Mary, but how she stays married to that guy is beyond me. They must
have an agreement never to discuss politics, or they would have killed
each other by now!

I can't even look at or listen to Carville. Gives me the creeps. And besides, he looks like something out of a comic strip, or an escapee from a mental institution.

Novak has nothing to aplogize for at all. Carville is a whacked out liberal who baits and then tries to bully people by pretending he is not a girly man.

I think Novak showed a great deal of restraint by not smacking him in the mouth. I couldn't have been so restrained.

If they are going to suspend people at CNN for their language, then they need to suspend the female reporter who said the exact same thing off camera during Lou Dobbs, and Carville has G** D**** many times as well as come as close to physically abusing someone as he can without actually touching them. CNN will continue to go down the tubes, as well as the Times, we can only hope that the slide will get faster soon.

So CNN suspended Novak? Why wasn't Dan Rather suspended when he stomped off the set a few years ago after being pre-empted by a (I think) tennis match?
