I went to Security Specialist training @ Lackland AFB 1/76. I remember this large contingency of middle easterners going through some kind of training at Lackland at the time. I remember specifically going to my PO Box and the Middle Easterners must have ate allot of garlic or something because they sure stunk up the place.
Anyways at the time I knew they were Muslims and I knew Muslims were the enemy of Israel and I thought it to be odd that we would be cooperating with an enemy of Israel when I thought Israel was our friend.
Can anyone shed some light on this odd memory I have?

I'm not sure about 76, but in 73 I was at Lowry in Denver taking the F-4E Fire Control (RADAR) course and we had a full class of Iranians right next door. We used to take breaks with them and got to know them pretty well. The guys you were seeing might well have been Iranians, too. |

Hubs went to A-school in the early 70's with Saudi and Iranian military students. Their governments paid the US for their schooling and the students apparently had WADS of cash with them, always.
By the time I came in, in 1979, I guess we weren't doing that any more, because I don't remember any Middle-Eastern students at Millington. (Aircraft mechanic, Av. Elec. Tech, Air Controlman, and Av. Metalsmiths, I think, were all there?)
But, in the late 80's and again in the mid-90's, hubs did two tours as instructor pilot and there were lots of Saudi flight students at Whiting Field. _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

Coldwarvet:
The Shah commissioned and paid for four 'Kidd' class destroyers, modified Spru' cans that before the Burke class were the most advanced and powerful destroyers afloat. Navy 'A' schools were filled with Iranis qualifiing for the ship's advanced systems. After the Ayatolla took over we kept them
Designed for Persian Gulf duty the Kidd class gave excellant service during the 'Tanker War' in the 80s. _________________ "KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!"
