I saw comparative photographs of Pass Christian, LA. post Camille and post Katrina. Buildings that survived Camille were leveled by Katrina. Is it possible the weather measurements of Katrina were off and this thing made landfall as a full Cat 5 not a 4?

I've been wondering along the same lines. It seems that the majority of the damage, though, was done by the storm surge. What was it about Katrina that made its storm surge so much worse than Camille?

I think it has something to do with the water temps in the Gulf and how much water the strom could suck up with the higher temps.

I believe I heard Katrina described as a much larger storm than Camille, in size. If so, that should account for it whipping up a larger amount of water and smashing it ashore. (I think Wink )

Storm surge has to do with the size of the hurricane, tide and wind strengh.

Katrina had it all.
