Key words: "I live below sea level"..............I guess I missed sumpin. Why not walk out into the ocean, build a sea wall, bail it out and then build a house? Here in the Midwest, we build on high ground. When it rains we watch where the water flows, build a dam and a pond eventually forms, over which our home (on high ground) can overlook. |
That takes planning AND implementation. I don't think the two go together in NOLA. |

Yes, Amos I think I will go out and take a couple of walleyes out of my pond for dinner tonight.
I can't believe we would sink another dime in building residential quarters that are below sea level, unless it is a submarine. Good grief just because the French were so stupid to build the city their in the first place does not constitute America’s continuation of insanity. If people want to live below sea level on their own dime and risk go ahead. But do not look for the government to rescue you or rebuild your loss.

glad I don't have to worry about this.... I don't live in the city;
so, I think I'm already evacuated.....
but, I will get a map in the mail to GWB so he can find my place;
I do expect him to personally come and get me if the 'country' is
evacuated back to the city..... _________________ Stevie

I guess I need to hijack a bus and drive to Houston!
Evacuation is not an option.

Back when New Orleans was formed, rivers were the most efficient means of supply and transportation. Its where ships could dock. Cities always built up around natural ports like N.O. When flooding comes, like it always does along rivers, they built levees. What started out as a few feet of high ground (high ground for a river delta, that is), dried out and shrank over the years to become 6 feet below sea level. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

And Houston, Texas is on it's way to the same situation. It's sinking also.
Glad you dropped by CWV.
