Good Lord. Could this have been any more screwed up? It appears while the Red Cross was being kept out of NO, the city’s residents were being kept in.
After the storm had passed, I remember hearing NO officials telling trapped residents the only way out of the city was the Crescent City Connection, a bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. Indeed, that was the info posted on the Web site of the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper: "The only way people can leave the city of New Orleans is to get on (the) Crescent City Connection”.
Seems the town on the other side of that bridge wasn’t on the same page as they [apparently] had it blockaded with police officers. This is AFTER the storm, mind you.
Arthur Lawson, chief of the City of Gretna Police Department told UPI "We shut down the bridge. There was no food, water or shelter. We did not have the wherewithal to deal with these people”.
And then the kicker:
"If we had opened the bridge, our city would have looked like New Orleans does now: looted, burned and pillaged."
Geeeez, you have State officials blocking the Red Cross from delivering relief while this guy blocks any escape. What a mess!
The UPI story is below. Note: I’d treat the “eyewitness” reports with some skepticism, as they are from San Francisco, and seem to be spewing democratic talking points. Doesn’t mean the rest isn’t true though.

PS I’m all for keeping your city safe from looters and other vermin, but geeeeeez. |

It's pathetic! Really, the tragedy just keeps compounding on itself...
But the MSM and the DIMocrats, from day one, decided what was wrong, passed judgment, and the issue is totally decided - all without benefit of evidence or fact.
How many more of these revelations are going to come out, despite Nancy P's and Hillary's call for a fact-finding commission focused only on federal response, and the MSM's deliberate suppression of such information as this?
And just as it was last year about this time, the average citizen hasn't a clue as to what is really going on. |
