For those of you who may not know, there is a fantastic D-Day Museum located on Magazine Street just west of the Central Business District in NOLA. Their website is www.d-daymuseum.com. The lobby/first floor features actually WWII miitary vehicles like jeeps and amtracks, plus a gift shop, theater and offices. The collection starts on the second floor. I had been concerened about the Museum when I heard on www.nola.com about a fire in the immediate vicinity. Happily, the Museum did not catch fire but was extensively looted. The looting seems to have been limited to the first floor and gift shop. The reason the thugs didn't get into the collection was a security guard who warded off the human debris with a .45. I wished he had commandered one of the Museum's prestine WWII American machine guns from the collection and let the lead fly! |
