Can't imagine a shipboard use for it. Spuds rot. We used the acid in a strong solution of powdered 'orange' drink to clean brass. _________________ "KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!"

Hi, Teedles,
Maybe you're saying that your ship got hit with a spray of Agent Orange?
I think we have had a couple of people here who remember either mixing it or loading it onto the planes when they were aboard the carriers. _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

We were offshore on the DDs. Don't recall anything happening with the
spud lockers on the main deck. We used the liquid "punch" mix for
cleaning too. Lemon/lime used to work wonders for the old steel deck
plates in the fireroom before we got the aluminum ones. _________________ Tin Can Sailor |

It would be very possible even though they were not spraying the area it is very possible for the wind to carry it a long distances we found evedince of it on our boats at CauViet and DDs were often in eyesite of us. |

I will have to do some research in my records - but I recall that one of the carriers during the 1967-68 timeframe carried Agent Orange. She was in the Yankee Station OPAREA, and the Navy was experimenting with limited defoliation missions flown off the carrier. It was only one carrier that I know of, and thereafter most or all the Agent Orange drops were flown from land bases.
The issue came up when I was helping an Aviation Boatswains Mate last year document his exposure to Agent Orange. He was attached to one of the squadrons deployed on that carrier.
My memory just cleared. It was the USS America (CV-66), and he was attached to VF 33 during the APR68-OCT68 cruise. They were flying F-4Js, and one of the other squadrons was handling Agent Orange. _________________ Doc Ford
