SHEIKHS OF DEATH
Behind The Lines
Dr. Jack Wheeler
Thursday, October 20, 2005

Here’s a story that should be on the front page of the New York Times but isn’t, since it’s actual news of global importance instead of phony scandals like “Plamegate” or attempts to criminalize conservatives such as Tom DeLay.

A group of prominent Arab intellectuals has sent a letter, co-signed by over 4,000 Moslem authors, scholars, poets, and journalists worldwide to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan requesting the establishment of an International Criminal Court for the prosecution of Islamic terrorists and the Moslem leaders who incite them.

Funny how you haven’t heard about this in the liberal “mainstream” media, huh?

The Open Letter from Liberal Arabs and Muslims was composed by three well-known Arab writers, Lafif Lakhdar from Tunisia, Shaker Al-Nabulsi from Jordan, and Jawad Hashim from Iraq. They perceptively zero in on a primary cause of Islamic terrorism: Fatwas, religious rulings issued by Moslem sheiks and clerics claiming to speak for Allah.

Criminal law views someone found to be “aiding and abetting” a crime just as punishable as the crime’s perpetrator. The letter thus demands the criminal prosecution of those who issue fatwas calling upon Moslems to commit terrorist acts. The letter calls the sheikhs who issue such fatwas “Sheikhs of Death.”

“It is not enough for the Security Council to adopt resolutions ‘condemning’ terrorism,” the letter informs Kofi Annan. Because “certain religious fatwas remain the pivotal cause of terrorist acts – fatwas which clothe such terrorist acts with legitimacy as being one of the sacred tenets of Muslim faith” – such fatwas constitute “terrorist acts,” and those responsible for them should be tried by an International Tribunal.

Then the letter names names.

“We can provide you (Kofi Annan) with exhaustive lists of fatwas which incite terrorist acts,” the letter notes, and proceeds to give examples:

*Sheikh Ali bin Khudair al-Khudairi of Saudi Arabia, who published a fatwa in February 2002 approving Al Qaeda’s September 11 attacks on America, and declaring: “It is legitimate to kill all infidel Americans, be they combatants or non-combatant like the old, the blind, or non-Moslems.”

*Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi of Egypt, whose fatwas in September 2004 ordered Moslems to kill all American civilians working in Iraq, and approved of killing pregnant Jewish women and their unborn babies because the babies could grow up to join the Israeli Army.

Qaradawi publicly stated in 1999: “I have issued a religious edict blessing the martyrdom operations in which a given Moslem fighter turns himself or herself into a human bomb that casts terror in the hearts of the enemy.” Qaradawi’s weekly program on Al-Jazeera satellite television has made him enormously popular in the Arab world.

*Sheikh Mohammed al-Ghazali, leader of the Moslem Brotherhood in Egypt, whose fatwas approved the murder of Moslem apostates such as Egyptian author Faraj Foda who had renounced his belief in Islam.

These and other Sheikhs of Death are “providing a religious cover for terrorism,” says Lakhdar and his colleagues, whose incitement must be criminalized. “We cannot let their dangerous nonsense to pass as Islam… we cannot allow these psychotic people to act in the name of and under the banner of Islam.”

The predictable response of Kofi Annan has been to ignore the letter and dismiss the request. The Jihadi website Nahdha.net – based in London and still not shut down by British authorities months after the July 7 London bombings – promptly issued a (what else?) fatwa calling for Lafif Lakhdar’s murder as punishment for his blasphemy.

Rather than the formation of an international court for terrorist incitement, what has had to be formed is the Lafif Lakhdar International Defense Committee (LLIDC), which provides 24-hour bodyguard protection for Lakhdar and the other petitioners, all under death threats.

It is only by standing up to Islamic intimidation, and supporting those who do, that Jihadism can be defeated. Lafif Lakhdar deserves our support. To do so, you can contact the chairman of the LLIDC, Abu Khawla at LLIDC@hotmail.com.

If it were written and signed by 3 prominent left winged members of the U.S. Congress and calling for the prosecution of members of the conservative supporters of the war on terror, you could bet it would get a lot of positive leftstream media attention. Confused

That's a fascinating read and some cause for hope. Unfortunately we all know how long it takes to get anything thru the U.N.

As I remember very recent history we (the U.S.) had clearance to go into Iraq and deal with Sadamn a couple of weeks before Sec. Powell made his appeal detailing WMD issues, Powell’s performance undergone to bolster domestic political support for Tony Blaire.

I've under taken the tedious task of sifting thru the panoply of 'Islamic' doctrines..... so confused it is just horrific.

First off as is mentioned above, each of these sheiks or clerics individually claim to be speaking directly for God. This is more than a little problematic for them to maintain order, even if there were no Infidels (me, you and I) around to unify them.

After they get rid of all the Jews and Christians they have many big fights to have among themselves. In each issue, parochial and specific to Muslims dealing with Muslims, each clan and each Sheik or Cleric has his own regional constituency. His authority to proclaim a 'fatawah' comes directly from God not from his Subjects or 'parish members' (tongue in cheek).

The Magna Carta is something not yet on the radar screen of awareness for these guys. Much of the problems undergone in the waves of violence put out by these guys... disciples of the Beloved Mohammad is their lack of understanding and dealing with the inevitable march of progress as each new day dawns.

The Wahabi movement is essentially just this, a reaction... strongest at the end of the 19th century, against the innovations wrought by the industrial revolution. The similarities to the Amish are fascinating.

One of the things that is a big problem for us, and the world as a whole is under wahabi interpretation of how they say Islam needs to be cleaned up: in prayer, no ones name is to be mentioned but God. Hence, we can not pray for our sick mother, those suffering in Pakistan after the earth quake.... Most importantly we can not pray for our own salvation.

I digress to this specific point because.... The Muslims, Christians and Jews all have some concept of being created with 'original Sin'. Unfortunalty for one born into the realm of the Blessed Islam there is no function for absolving oneself of this sin. The only path guarantied to get one a place in Heaven is to die as a martyr, fighting to protect and further the cause of Blessed Islam.

Oddly enough in heaven God supplies these heroic martyrs with a host of 'virgins'..... a very revealing construct concerning the subjugation of woman throughout this culture.

There is a word Fitna(edited as I used the wrong word originally) being bantered about these days with the meaning of a 'fight within Islam... between Muslims'. However if you study the etymology of the word... what it originally refers to by definition is a woman’s seductive power over a man... to which he is unable to resist. Hence, all problems befalling Muslims throughout history are due to the fact that.... woman are attractive.

All this said, while 'proselytizing', and I use this word very loosely, I would rather use the word 'Brainwashing', among the most depraved criminal elements in U.S. jails or jails anywhere on this planet these guys promise complete absolution for all wrongs done... and by the way a couple dozen virgins too boot.

This 'absolution' can be found in any of the above mentioned 'fatawah's each put forth by some regional leader who... by the way speaks directly for God.

The Catholic Church has enough trouble with a Pope speaking as the Vicar of Christ. These guys got the equivalent of a couple thousand separate and independent sheiks and Clerics all speaking directly for God. Unfortunately they don't all agree with each other by a long shot. The only thing they can agree on for the moment is Killing Jews, Christians, Brits, Americans, Kiwi's, Aussies, Balinese etc...

So I like the Letter put forward in the PDF doccument, but I fear it's going to take a whole lot more. The U.N. has had many, many chances to 'Make or Break' its credibility and usefullness in world history and has nearly always come up short.... Korea, Isreal, Bosnia, Iraq.... on and on.

Talk is cheap in Manhatten thier lunches are not. Something needs to be done now.... well yesterday and a couple of years before.

We need to ratchet up the force considerably and most importantly get these people educated. We are at a very tenuious crossroad.

Just consider allone the issue of the region wide offense of the pictures of Saddamn undergoing a medical exam on video. This guy Killed millions of thier own by some of the most horrific means ever devised. Yet some how our showing him getting a medical exam is embarasing for him and makes us out to be the villian.... for treating him well. Big probems, man, big problems.

I would suggest to anyone who has not gone to Europe, to go before it becomes part of Eurabia. If we don't suceed in stamping out terrorism in the name of Islam now and bring the Muslim world into this Century, you can bid farewell to Europe as we know it today. The next generation of Muslim youth has to be enlightened now because the longer it takes, the worse it will be.

The birth rate in places like France and Italy is a little more than 1 per couple while currently 20-30 per cent of the population under 25 in France is already Muslim and growing. I have seen estimates of 50,000,000 less Europeans on the continent in less than 30 years from now.

If this growing population of Muslims in Europe are taught the same hatred they are now, Europe's Christian community will be gone forever and all of Europe's resources will be in their hands. So if you have never been to Rome or Venice, go now before it becomes part of Eurabia and will forever be changed.

Remember very distinctly and clearly when Qidaffi went to England and made his speech of concession about no longer using terrorism as a tool.

The very next thing out of his mouth was the full intention of taking over Europe and the World at large by way of Immigration.

In France the only one with enough balls to speak out about this thus far has been Bridgit Bardot.

The West's Last Chance: Will We Win the Clash of Civilizations?

Date: September 22, 2005
Time: 12:00 noon
Speaker(s): Tony Blankley
Author
Host(s): Rebecca Hagelin
Vice President,
Communications and Marketing,
The Heritage Foundation
Details:
Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium

Author and pundit Tony Blankley argues that the West is down to its last chance. The Nazis failed to take over Europe, but militant Islam might. Within our lifetimes, Europe could become Eurabia: a continent overwhelmed by militant Islam that poses a greater threat to the United States than even Nazi Germany did. In The West’s Last Chance, Blankley posits how it could happen — and what we must do to prevent it.

What really happens if Islamist terrorists acquire weapons of mass destruction? How far along is Europe toward being a launching pad for Islamist terrorism? What upheavals are potentially in store as Europe’s birthrates plummet? Could a similar fate face the United States? What’s holding our government back from fighting the Islamist threat to the best of its ability? Blankley addresses these and other hard questions – and gives straight answers – important to determining how we think about – and fight – the War on Terror.

TONY BLANKLEY is the editorial page editor of The Washington Times, a regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group, a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate, and a popular speaker and radio and television pundit. For seven years he was press secretary to then Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and before that served President Ronald Reagan as a speechwriter and senior policy analyst.
