The 911 Commission, having been disbanded last year, is apparently reconstituting itself as a private entity with the mission of complaining that "not enough has been done to protect against terrorism". (Seems to me that whatever has been done has been pretty effective so far.)
This commission, under Messrs. Kean and Hamiltion, took on the unasked-for role of a shadow government intent on supplanting our real government and now feels they have been ignored. I would think they would let well enough alone since Jamie Gorelick would be brought out of hiding and this time, hopefully, would be exposed as the chief architect of screwing up intelligence operations and methods.
No links yet that I have found, just radio and TV mutterings.

As well they should be ignored. They flubbed it. It turned into a Gorelick CYA and an unsuccessful try to blame the President while attempting to salvage Slick Willy. Able Danger was irrelevant, remember? _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

The commission has reconstituted itself under the name "9/11 Public Discourse Project". The Boston Glob has a feature on it today:

A snip:
Quote: | Calling the country ''less safe than we were 18 months ago," former commissioner Jamie Gorelick said yesterday that the government's lack of action on the recommendations makes the United States more vulnerable.
Gorelick, a Democrat, cited the failure to ensure that foreign nations are upgrading security measures to stop proliferation of nuclear, biological, and chemical materials, as well as the FBI's resistance to overhauling its antiterrorism programs.
''You remember the sense of urgency that we all felt in the summer of 2004. The interest has faded," the Washington lawyer said on ABC's ''Good Morning America." ''You could see that in the aftermath of Katrina. We assumed that our government would be able to do what it needed to do, and it didn't do it." |
The arrogance and egocentrism of these people is unmatched. They have come down from the mountain with gold tablets saying what needs to be done and a pox upon any who deign to ignore them. A recommendation that would have been welcome would have been to seek out and punish whoever it was that emasculated our intelligence apparatus to the point that known terrorists could operate freely in our country.
Ms. Gore-Lick, call your office.

Jamie Gore-like is part of the problem. We need a wall between her and a few other Clintonistas from the rest of the real world. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69

I've felt for a long time the commission evolved into the successor of the DNC strategy to try and politicize potential hearings on Supreme Court Nominees.
Remember when some republican staffers found the computer files exposing the planed strategy of sabotaging any judicial hearings with political wrangling? It then became a scandal that the files were exposed, not that they existed (sort of the opposite logic of 'Rather Gate').
My sense is the whole 911 commission was a sham attempting to pick up the ball of politicizing everything and anything possible as was planed for the judicial hearings, before they were exposed. |
